What’s your fly rod and fly line of choice for Low Country Reds?
Come on boys and girls, less reading and more responding!
6-8 it doesnt really matter. depends on wind.

That’s more like it!
6/7wt martin old school…all i could afford.hoppy gave me pointers on here some time ago for the trout.still tryin to figure right line set-up and flies though.i still got alot to learn.figure ill go see the guy at chas angler…
man-up or shut-up
Oh…the 6 is a Winston Boron XTR…very fast and casts like a fast 8!
just make sure you got the power for the wind…
a 6 is fun on the lowtide flats… but when you get in the grass or around structure you may want a little more muscle…
the most common size we sell for the average joe is the 8 wt… with a nice stiff taper… you can do just about anything in salt water from maine to the keys with an 8 wt as well as some large freshwater species… its a good all arounder…
everyone likes something different… it just comes down to casting a few a seeing what feels good to you and suits your casting style…
just give us a hollar at the shop and we can answer any questions you have and perhaps point you in the right direction to get started.
Good luck, and tight lines!!!

power insnt necessarily all from the rod. take a look at your leaders too. i use 6’s in the grass a good bit. but id agree that 8 is probably the best all around for inshore.

It seems to me that one of the biggest factors depends on the materials that the rod is made from as well as the basic action of the rod, slow, moderate or fast. I’ve fished some fast 7’s that throw like slower 8’s & 9’s, I’ve also thrown some heaver sticks that were absolute beasts and needed to be significantly over line just to cast adequately. Personally I’d rather underfish a rod as overfish one while light line and light tackles a hoot, Mother Nature never seems to cooperate when I have the time to go…it’s also a pretty good excuse to buy more rods!!

He took the bait like a jugbelly redfish on an olive and white clouser.
To answer the question though I use an 8wt rod for reds and trout and a 10 or 12 wt for north carolina albacore. The line I use for reds is a floating line made by Scientific anglers. Headstart I think it is

currently using a echo 8w with sci. angler reel.
How do you like the Echo compared to other labels?
Beulah 7wt. SA Mastery Redfish line. This rod feels more like an 8wt to me.

I am throwing a Orvis 8wt with an Okuma reel. I have some El Cheapo Bass Proshops 8wt WF-f line that gets the flies out but I don’t know how well it works… I can’t get one on my line I keep telling my wife my rig is broken because it dosen’t catch fish but she still won’t let me get a new one
Rod: Orvis 8 wt Power Matrix.
Reel: Orvis Vortex spooled w/ Wonderline.
