I am really hoping that 2014 will be the year that we finally organize a club down here in the Lowcountry. At the last Meet and Fish, I mentioned this to the anglers…and now I want to ask you all, since this forum is really the heart and soul of the local kayak fishing scene.
In the early phase, the club’s purpose could be simple - to promote the sport of kayak fishing and educate new kayak anglers, and promote fellowship. Long term, we can look at the possibilities of promoting a tournament to raise money for local charities, among other things.
Kayak fishing has exploded here in our area…it would be wonderful to organize into a formal club and see how we can make a difference.
It’s a great idea. There certainly are enough kayak anglers in the area. I just worry about turnout and support. We’ve had the monthly meet & fish where only five people showed. I do think Lewis would be perfect person to spearhead such an undertaking. You should set a meeting time and place and see how it goes. If the turnout is good take it from there.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.
Yes - setting a meeting time would be the next step…with the cold weather hanging around, this is a good time of the year to start planning. Would be great to get as many people involved as possible.
Great Name…Low Country Kayak Fishing Club (LCJFC). I like it!!
I’m for creating a club. I have heard from many yak anglers in the area that we need to have some of the ‘Meet & Fish’ events on Sunday. Also I would like to see the ‘Meet & Fish’ expand to more freshwater events as well. I’m sure that there are others that would agree.
I would propose that we have a committee to plan the year or a six month plan of events. I would suggest that we have six events for saltwater and six for freshwater. Of the 12 events 50% should be on Saturdays and the balance on Sundays.
Not sure how active I could be living in Columbia but, I would be interested. My oldest will be going off to college next Fall, that’s no more football and no more lacrosse so maybe more fishing. Gonna miss the sports but maybe some fishing will help with my depression.

LGB…let me know what I can do to help.
Great idea DD…we can alternate it for the sake of those who can’t fish Saturdays.
