I would love to know what everyone has had luck with in the past. I’m looking to prep my tackle box before the stripers begin schooling. I’ve heard bucktails and top water poppers. I’m a coastal guy and just started with Lake Murray here recently.
I need to swap out these saltwater lures for some fresh water lures. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.
Pencil Poppers, Spooks, Striper Swipers etc…are all good, but I’ve gotten to where I just prefer to use a fluke.
I miss seeing the fish bust on a popper, but a lot of times they may not stay up long and you can waste a lot of time unhooking a fish with a treble hook in it’s mouth.
PS Sorry about the duplicate posts lately. I know a lot of you get an email every time something is posted. I’m not sure what I’m doing all of the sudden to cause it, but I am now only logging in on my phone when I am going to post and then log back off.

Tim, You’re not a little “gun shy” after the last treble hook/emergency room incident are you?

Thanks for the reply. I am new to striper fishing and have gone out with Play Therapy (forum member) who’s a buddy of mine to work some herring and have had no luck. I feel lost fishing in such deep water with such finicky bait, so I’ll be happy to switch to some artificial bait soon.
Happy Bob,
I hear you’re a man that I might need for some some rib welds on my War Eagle. It’s 17 years old and has had some ribs repaired in the past, but some of the beads are cracking. I can PM you some pics if that’s something that you would handle. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Alex

I’ve been doing this for a long time while chasing largemouth. Definitely don’t like anything with a treble hook for schooling fish for reasons mentioned, but I will change them out with single hooks on plugs. The fish will only stay up for so long and that allows me more casts instead of spending time unhooking fish.
