Mad 2018

The folks from Mad hosted the soldiers on Saturday. We couldn’t of asked for a more beautiful day to go fishing. We had a crew of 6 surf captains and 15 soldiers going on the surf trip. We boarded the ferry boat in the morning at 8 am and headed to beautiful Morris island for a day of fun. This is the third year we have hit Morris and it has proved to be challenging to a group of seasoned surf fishermen each year. It has been tough, but with some hard work and luck, the fish can be found. As alway’s the group of soldiers were extremely appreciative of our efforts, and are truely a wonderful group of men and women. I have said this before, but the best way I can describe the experience is it is humbling. You feel lucky to have the opportunity to spend the day with these folks, and the fact that you get to do it fishing makes it even all the better. After breaking up into teams we headed out to the beach. My personal experience was it was dead for the first couple of hours. When I say dead I mean not a fish to show for it. I took comfort in knowing the group next to me with a fisherman who is much better than I am, was experiencing the same thing. At least I knew it wasn’t just me:smiley: My general rule of thumb is when this happens, it is time to move. I figured how can it be any worse. I had 0 fish[:I] Packed up the gear and looked for another spot. By now I’m thinking good Lord. These soliders woke up at 2 am and drove from Fort Brag N.C. to go fishing, and I was unable to produce for them. I was heart broken. By the grace God the second spot proved to be better and the boy’s got what they came for, a good time and a few fish. Mad put on a phenomenal event. It is truely a blessing to fish with the solders, my buddies and the memories will be something to cherish for years to come. God Bless and take care folks. Good luck out there.

I will agree with Pete 100%. These service folks are a great group! I to get a humbling feeling taking them out and am proud to be involved with the MAD group. For sure fishing was slow, but all had a great time, enjoying the perfect weather and comrodery.
Much thanks to all involved with the event.

Another wonderful event this year and to add to the pictures , Here’s the video on our side of the island.

Enjoy watching: https://youtu.be/-Qx6xrsmJ5Q

Woo hoo!!! Some nice reds showed up. Glad it was a success and another great year.

Missed you Papa:smiley:That island has a pattern thus far of being a tuff fishery. We have had some pretty salty folks on it so far and the story remains the same. No one has gone out there and just killed it out of the 3 trips we have done with 20 something fishermen. Some of the fisherman having 40 plus years experience. Its makes it a challenge. Anyone can walk into McDonalds, and walk away with a bag of burgers:smiley: Werson your videos are getting good:smiley:

I’m hoping to go out this week and join the fun that many have been having. I need some beach fishing in my fur tire haha

My hats off with sincere thanks to the surf capts who really show the troops a fantastic day under less than ideal conditions. They not only take them to some of the best spots that they can find but also coach them unselfishly in how and what to do to catch the fish. My heart just explodes in joy to see all the smileing faces and to have them come up to me expressing THEIR</font id=“red”> thanks to MAD for providing the opportunity for them to enjoy such a day!!! It brings back memories of my own time on active duty when no appreciation was ever expressed to the troops or events to thank us , I can feel their gratitude in my heart…
PETE ; JARVIS ; DPARKER ; PAPA ; YALL ARE THE BEST …THANK YALL AGAIN !!!</font id=“size5”></font id=“red”>

PS ; already looking forward to next year:smiley::smiley::smiley:
