I fished 4 casters with cut menhadden, it was the best bait saturday. I soaked bait from 420 to 720 putting fresh bait on like ever 20 minutes. I only had crabs nibble at my baits. Not even a blue fish around.
I tried everything long cast short cast nothing helped. Mud minnows were in the surf but no mullet or menhadden around at all.
The only patterns i can find for folly is the am is always better and the incoming tide is usually better. Everytime i get skunked at folly its outgoing in the afternoon.
At least your arms got a bit of a rest .
Looking back at the solunar table for 10/2, Mr. Stevo’s great day; major period from 7:00-10:00 AM. Low tide was around 7:45’ish?
I’m thinking Mr. Stevo caught all the giant Bulls from the north end anyways.
Personally I have always prefer incoming regardless the time of day.
Trust me I feel your pain
The tide was up and i couldn’t tell if it was still coming in so i didnt want to get stuck without a beach to fish on. Ive seen a lot of reds caught from where i was to the last rock set. My arm felt a lot better but i could feel it everycast and reeling in. I think it happened when i threw my cast net saturday and the rope got tangled and jerked my arm so that my elbow bent backwards.
In 4 beach trips where big reds were the target ive caught reds once.
Last Saturday morning the bite was good up until about an hour before high tide. All through outgoing it was dead. It started to pick back up about a hour before low. I generally have much better results on an incoming tide. 2 trips for me lately with no reds. I hope to get out this weekend.

One 4 hr. trip for me in the last couple of months the other day. Hit a new spot on Sullivans. Several groups of surf fishers out. I didn’t see one red landed. I did pretty good with small fish. 1 trout, handful of whiting, handful blues, several spots, and a 2 ft shark. Mullet were jumping all over the place. They were boiling and birds were busting them. I just have been shut out my usual hole. Brother in law bedded up out at the beach house for 12 weeks with a major ankle surgery and his folks taking care of him. I had several biopsies done on my feet that were recommended by the doctor looking for melanoma. They scooped several holes out the bottom of my feet and it further kept me off the beach for 6 weeks as the feet heal at a snails pace. I could have gone but didn’t want to get sand in it and risk infection with the MAD trip coming up. No melanoma thank god. Just asymmetrical moles.Seems like an odd place on bottom of feet but that stuff can travel. Cover up folks. Brother in law out the house now. His parents will be taking off Feet are healed and I intend on opening up a can of whoop ass on the fish shortly. I don’t get a whole lot of monsters, but have potential to land more fish in one day than most get all year. Mad trip coming up and if you want in 40, just say the word. You are an excellent fisherman. Don’t feel any pressure to do so though. I hope you get your 50 this year. It ain’t rocket science. We all chunk bait the same and either they show that particular day or they don’t. Peace out.
Thats great news Pete “no melanoma” take care and I hope to see you soon…
