Many states now have a law where a buck must have at least 4 points on one side in order to kill.Certain game zones in our state could benefit from that law.Even the Middleton hunt clubs, who do everthing first class, cant determine the age of a deer as its running full speed, jumping a road. Its all a blur. How many button bucks are taken, thinking its a doe?
TRY to come up with a management plan, there may be some hope still left.
Colleton and Hampton would not benefit. I guess you don’t have many deer where you hunt. I’m glad to see every one of the vermin taken out. I’ve finally talked the wife into letting me get rid of a few around the house. Bastards are hell on a garden.
I don’t hunt for Antlers, I hunt for meat, fun and to save some farmers money. I’ve had my fill of nice racks.
I kind of like the Brown it’s down thing, if the herd is healthy. Don’t judge other hunters unless you know all the details.
Counted 26, 14, and then a group of 18 this morning headed to the shop. S.C. is deer heavy. How else do you explain such a long deer season and so many still around?</font id=“red”>
On the trophy rack thing, just think about little league football. Only the winners need a trophy. Work hard and be dedicated and you just may get one.
As far as hope still left? That’s a good one! Deer populations have skyrocketed over the last 30-40 years. They are quick breeders. What we need to do is kill every scrub and little d

I made the mistake to join a big acre dog hunting club with a certain area of still hunting only but its so poorly managed they have only killed 12 deer this year and decided to run dogs in the still hunt area, now there is nothing in the still hunt area . No respect at all and from the word of other still hunters no one will be back next year, too bad for club, maybe these guys will figure it out why they cant pay the lease. Once i get done with the season, I’ll let anyone know what club this is, I don’t need my deer stand to come up missing, if you know what I mean. PM me after the season and I’ll for warn anyone who wants to know. This is a poor excuse of a hunt club !!!24’ SeaPro, 250 Yammaha
I have never met a dog hunter that shoots “whatever” runs out the other side. it is also ignorant to say they are not hunters. It takes a whole lot more skill to shoot a deer running than it does to climb a tree and sit over a corn pile waiting for a deer to come out and stand still while you shoot it. I’m really not sure why someone would join a dog hunting club to only still hunt and expect the mean ole dogs to stay out of the designated still hunting spot… SMDH!!

a lot of the doggers do shoot whatever in order to stop/control the
SCARCHER220, I do not dispute the fact that some do, but my point it that all aren’t bad, all do not, etc… The club I hunt on has a minimum size limit. You shoot a deer below the minimum and you pay. Does it stop undersized deer from being shot? No… Does it keep it to a minimum? Yes… The point a few have made on here is that ALL dog hunters are bad and that simply isn’t the case, just like all still hunters are not bad. But to say all dog hunters kill what ever they see is a ignorant statement. I have a good friend that processes deer. I stop by a lot some evenings and I am truely surprised at the small deer brought in by still hunters. There are bad apples on both sides of the fence, in not only deer hunting, but all types of hunting, sports, auto racing, you name it. It doesn’t make the whole group bad though does it?

I agree with a lot of your statements pit. I know doggers who shoot everything and I know doggers who rarely shoot anything unless it is older. “Most” dog clubs do not operate under a size limit. I have had great experiences with them and I have had knock down drag outs as well. I try to stay away from them at all costs these days.
To answer the question: No, it does not make all doggers bad.
I can say "based on 40 years experience hunting, dog hunting is migrating toward the bad with all the renegade, small acreage clubs/leases. The number of “clubs” that try to do it right, have dramatically decreased in the past 15 years or so.
I don’t dog hunt but to each his own… as long as you don’t encroach on me.

You and Chris both have no clue… It takes not skill? That sir or mam is really a stupid statement and shows that you have never been on a dog hunt. No Skill to shoot a skinnned back wide open running deer? Really? [:0]. yep, you have no clue. Bolbie does, but I don’t think he wants to admit that dog hunting is fun as I take it he has had some pecker head dog hunters encroach on his hunting grounds. I would also say if Bolbie has spoke true he has went above and beyond and fenced his property to keep dogs out. But no pictures means it’s not true… right Bolbie:wink:
Everyone who comes to this thread and says “yeah, dog hunters are a real problem” is a clueless Yankee liberal?
It would be funny if this was not the universal reaction from every person who thinks dog hunting is wonderful who just so happens to be the most ethical hunter ever and who has never seen any dog hunter act like a **** head to others or to the dogs he mistreats.
All these people who see this all over the state must be clueless right?
Keep ignoring these comments and never acknowledge the poor behavior of people like the beaglepeople and it will be that much sooner that you noble dog hunters wind up like the same noble hunters in Alabama and Georgia.
I can’t wait to tell you 'I told you so."
Oh yeah, someone should ask beagle woman why she took down all the cockfighting pictures she used to be so proud of…

If you don’t kill 99% of the deer you decide to shoot from the tree stand you are screwing up. Furthermore when you are sitting in a stand those deer have no idea you are in the world. See a deer you would like to kill and put dogs on him and your odds are 50/50 at best. When he hears the dogs behind him he knows he is being hunted and he has to outsmart the dogs and you have to outsmart him. I know there are some bad hunters out there but they are on both sides of the fence and for you to say all dog hunters are bad hunters is totally inaccurate. But look at 99% to 50% and tell me were the sport is. You want to kill deer grab your rifle, you want to hunt for the sport go load the dogs. And just so you know I still hunt on a strictly trophy managed club and dog hunt the same way.

As far as my fence, the manager at Poco Sabo turned me on to the contractor from Arkansas.Same guy installed what they have.I’ve never posted pictures,no need to,never started a thread bragging about said fence.Mentioned it before, because it is a wonderful feeling watching a pack of hounds put on the brakes as deer pile over the fence with ease. But,you don’t have to believe any of that Freddie,Ill take a picture tomorrow afternoon and post it for you,Bo.
I need to check in here more often. This thread is more entertaining than the fishing reports

The picture thing was a jab back at you for saying I should post pictures over some pre-season deer we took out… legally. I don’t need a picture from you, Bo. I’d love to have my entire property fenced in and it is in the works. Done a bit of fishing and hunting on Poco Sabo. You know anything about Asheepoo Snapper? Don’t think dirty. Heck, we might even know each other?

No that is my brother. Not a lot of difference with us other than he never misses a Sunday at Church and I rarely go. We used to work together, but now it’s just hunting, fishing and cooking out together. He was the one who used to take me on Poco Sabo, loved the hybrid striper pond. He does much more hunti
I got invited to a duck hunt with the guy who owns poco sabo…he had his limit before I had even gotten off a shot.

I was shocked to hear a young man at my mechanics shop proudly say that he’d killed 14 bucks. That was when I was new to Charleston, transplanted against my will from glorious Georgia, by my wife’s new and excellent job.
Since then I am continually shocked by dog hunting, baiting with corn (the whole dad blame culture of it [giant inexpensive sacks of it on every corner, every hardware store and every walmart]), seeing it in ghastly piles near my hunting spots and so on. Just the machinery of the corn baiting makes me sick. But there’s more. The guns. Guns guns guns.
Between the guns, the corn, and the dogs, the deer are so pressured around here they nary make a move until complete darkness. For a person who needs them relaxed at 20 yards this is VERY frustrating.
In Georgia I would have killed at least 6 deer by now. This year I haven’t gotten a single shot. The deer come in silently with 30 seconds of shooting light left, and they are so wound up one dare not ever swallow for fear of spooking them further. Frustrated.
I have one small acreage to hunt, and it’s surrounded by dogs, guns, and corn. I am hoping that in the end, these deer can be pressured to move to my turf.
When I’m old and frail I will go back to the gun. But you strong and healthy gun hunters and dog hunters, haven’t you ever wanted something more? Haven’t you wanted to win because of your cunning?
Give up the guns unless you’re very young or very old, and give up for sure the dogs and the corn.
Peacefully yours,
Make a good shot.
