See updates on last page…Dec. 21 at 0800 at Paradise Landing.

I actually don’t work that weekend! How about paradise?

I would like to try Paradise. Looks like high tide will be near 7 AM. We will be fishing a out going tide and when we are done the tide will bring us back to the landing. Of course this depends on the wind.

I am currently scheduled to work…but I will definitely work on trading shifts so I can get off work. It’d be great to meet more kayakers in the area! I’ve only met Lewis by accident a couple of weeks ago.

I’d be good with Paradise, I frequent there anyway. I wouldn’t mind Bulls Bay either, I remember seeing a bunch of nice creeks in there but couldn’t get too far in the boat I was in.

My thoughts exactly. The trout have been everywhere down river from there. I’ve been trolling bringing up one every 20 feet at times.

Hey we could even make it a challenge for everyone and have fun as well.

We could make it fun by having everyone at the Meet & Fish venture out with one fishing rod and one lure of their choice.
Or
Everyone fish with a mini-rod (max length of 30") with as many lures that they wish to bring but only one mini-rod set-up.

We all game for this type of challenge? If so pick your weapon. The most votes will be the fishing method for the Meet & Fish.

With the fish loving artificials lately, the mini-rod challenge would be awesome. I think I have a Snoopy rod laying around here somewhere…

I hope to see you guys there! I might be able to make the first one in a long time.

Prepare for bull reds, gator trout, and doormat flounder to be landed on a spiderman setup

Mini-rod fishing challenge…lets do this. Steal your kid’s Barbie rod if you must!

My son has a Spiderman rod. But that thing is spooled with 2lb test. And those “bullet” reels tangle everytime. What are the rules regarding modifications? I thought about throwing my daughter’s little pink spinning reel on the spderman rod. Is that legal?

Ice fishing rods are great rods under 30 inches, really sensitive, not toys. I have one and landed a 35 & 27 inch red on 10# braid the rod is 30 inch Zebco from a 10 dollar combo at wall-mart and put a old Shakespeare micro-spin I had. The rod is solid fiber glass and a 5 out 5. The micro-spin, I’ve had two of them, one seized after a short life and the other is as tough as rocky 4 years+ of abuse, and together they are luckier then Magic Johnson. I personally don’t have a problem with any line replacement…

I didn’t think so. I’ll give the kiddie rod a try. But I’m bringing a few other rods as well. If the fishing is good, I hate to be stuck downriver with nothing other than a broken 2 foot spiderman rod and a reel that spit it’s guts at the sight a 20 something redfish. I still think it’s a great idea and worthy of a group wager (winner take all for largest fish landed on a kiddie rod) Note: I said kiddie rod. Not a medium power St. Croix ice rod. Knowing some of our more resourceful kayak anglers and their Macgyver skills this should make for a very interesting and entertaining outing. Kudos to whoever thought of it.

Note that the original challenge was a mini-rod not a toy rod. Thirty inch max. There is no problem with line replacement. It is up to those that what to fish with a barbie rod. Keep in mind that the toy rods are much more stiff then a ice fishing rod.

No problem JP - I’m going to bring a regular rod too.

For those wanting to participate in this, we can determine the winner by a Catch-Photo-Release method with the fish on a measuring board, making sure the mini-rod is in the pic with the fish - that will be the ‘token’ for the tournament. We’ll determine a time to be back at the landing to compare pics. I’ll try to come up with something fun for the winner…maybe a traveling trophy - we could make this a yearly event for the meet-and-fish. Good times are in store…
