I need some opinions. I have destroyed my current band (tungsten carbide). You might be wondering how I destroyed something only a diamond can scratch…well the metal is still very conductive and due to its extremely hard nature it is known to shatter. I have been married 3.5 wonderful years. During the first year while working on a boat battery I electrocuted myself the wedding band was the point of contact. I added several large black pits to the outside of the band. My wife was less than thrilled about her husband messing up a ring she was promised I could not scratch. Last week after washing my hands in the restroom at work the ring slid off my finger while pulling some paper towels out hit the bathroom floor and shattered. Now I have to wearable ring and we need a replacement.
I need something that is durable and inexpensive. I am thinking a titanium band. Anyone have one?
Maybe one out of something non-conductive like rubber? or band aids?
To your point, though- I have a friend with a titanium one and he likes it, it can still be removed in an ER situation… only bad things I have heard about them are that in accidents they will take the finger with the ring, but I think that risk is the same with any material really. The titanium has the added bonus of being hard to scratch and will not get dinged up if you use it to open beers.
Tungsten carbide is the same thing they use to make the router bits and tipped-blades of table saws that I use at work. Hitting even a common lumber staple in wood can chip it.
Yes, it’s incredibly hard, but then again so is tempered glass. Both can shatter quite easily. I blew a tempered window all over myself last year by slamming the door on my truck too hard (the door hinge is really worn, you have to slam it). The window was halfway up, and wasn’t properly braced for the slam, and it shattered all over me.
My suggestion is what mhebbard said. Titanium. Yes, it can be scratched, but not MUCH!! The scratches are never huge. I have a nice titanium band I paid $50 for.
Good titanium has a bit of a black-steel or “gunmetal grey” color to it. It’s extremely light.
Get one that has a nice rounded inside so that it’s comfy on your finger. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve worn mine for several years now… I am a cabinet maker with a pretty brutal daily routine on wedding bands, and mine still looks quite nice.

forget buying a ring, just get a tungsten shaded tattoo around your finger. It will never shatter and never fall off your finger no matter how much soap you use. Scratches? your finger will heal.
But if you get the finger cut off, well, I suppose you are back to square one.
Man, what’s with all this High Tech stuff. I bought a plain gold band in 1970 for $21.00, and it still works fine! Gold will cost you a little more today.

You should get Redfish Matt to make you one out of wood.

I’ll break any gold ring in less than a month. I’ve proven this over and over unfortunately lol. My original wedding ring has been broken at least 4 times, and the replacement (my father’s band) is so badly misshapen that it looks like a stop sign, and has a crack in it lol.
Titanium band, cheaper than most decent gold ones (at least mine was), and still looks sweet after several years of pretty nasty abuse

Lol, that’s actually been done. They are decorative only, or for folks with sedentary lifestyles, but they sure look neat.

Try QVC. Over the years and increasing pounds my finger “outgrew” my ring. So the wife says she is going to order a stainless ring in my new size. They are as low as $22 she says, and have something called the smooth cut (or something like that) which make it easier to put on and pull off. Its kind of like a bevel on the inside of the ring. Check em out.
She hasn’t got me one yet, guess maybe I am not worth $22. Its OK, the ladies see me as fair game when I don’t wear a ring. Oh yeah!
I know some guys never take their rings off. There are some times I never wear mine (no, not while bar hopping). I do not wear mine fishing/boating or when doing a lot of manual labor. My FIL stripped his finger to the bone shortly after I met my wife. Caught it on something at work as he was stepping off a ladder. I work with a woman who lost half her finger at work after her band snagged a shelf. I know you can’t prevent every potential accident but, I try to reduce the chances when I know I will be doing a lot with my hands. My wife understands.

Get a ring tattooed on your finger. I bet you will not scratch it, bend it, but you can still break it LOL. I have had mine for about a year now and love it. My real ring is on my key chain and will cover my tattoo when I want to wear it.

Just get a 10Kt Gold Ring. Durable and lasts, not very expensive and does the job it needs to do.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Also, you weren’t electrocuted, if you were, you’d be dead.
I have had a titanium wedding band for about 2.5 years so far and it’s held up well, I got one with meteorite in it. The titanium does scratch up a bit but I think it just adds character to it. I was an ER nurse for a couple years and have cut a couple off they are no problem, never tried to cut a tungsten carbide ring. I got mine from www.boonerings.com/ I think plain titanium ones are 95$ The meteorite is kinda hipster but I think it’s cool knowing I may have something on my finger that is older than the earth.

yes maybe not electrocuted but it heated the ring up enough to burn my finger. I had a nice blister all the way around my finger in the shape of a ring. It felt amazing too.
