Long Enuff and I (had a last minute backout) set out today in search of some hoos. Well, we found one in around 600’ and 72° water. We had a couple more hits with no hookups. We were fixing to pull the lines in when we had two hits/misses. The first fish decided to change baits and went to the way back and got hooked. The other fish hit one of the outriggers. I grabbed the rod and dropped it back and then it got hooked. It was a small sailfish double. It was a good way to end the day. We had never trolled in January, but we set out with the mindset of not getting skunked and to get at least one of our target fish. We accomplished that. No trophy hoo, but a hoo none the less, and a couple of bills. So, it was a somewhat successful trip in my book. Can’t wait to do it again…

I agree, sails in January, good job and nice wahoo. Hopefully the fish will keep moving down and be at the Scarp/GT Hole soon. There were quite a few caught up north of us today. I was at Ocean Isle fishing center earlier today and quite a few hoos were caught.
Not sure I have ever seen that done. Looks to have worked.
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.
I just like all the pretty colors!!
It is just a habit really. I feel that it hasn’t hurt yet. Maybe it extends the lure, if you will, depending on the size and amount of beads. The fish might strike further up and get the hook easier. Who knows? We all have different ways of rigging based on experience and confidence…

Yeah, it got really comfortable out there. We caught the hoo around 1030. After that, I had to come out of the sweatshirt. It was real nice when we passed the 226 hole in search of warmer water and found some 74.5° water. I think we would have done better to just stay in the 71° to 72° water. I was trying to find a good break in temp, but only found slow gradual changes.

Nice going Lynn
I see you took advantage of the flat water, i’ve been droolling all week looking at it, looks like the lake, but just my luck the weekend is gonna suck. Maybe i need to start woking weekends and fishing weekdays :)Wish it was that easy!
I was screwing around in Florida with circle hooks w/ dead and live bait rigs and not hooking up sails. I see the J hook worked just fine for you. May have to change my approach. thats a nice hoo and a very succesful day in my book — congrats.

Thanks Paul!
We didn’t really notice a lot of bait. Of course, my cheap unit doesn’t do real well out deep…
We did see a whopping total of 3 flying fish.
