Miss Amanda 5/19......

Long Enuff, 2 other buddies (Brad and Heath) and I set out on the not so slick pond to find some fishies. It was a slow wet ride out to say the least, but we had a great time anyway. We started in ~130’ and had a fish on in no time that ran pretty good before spitting the hook. We worked out from there heading toward EB to an area that we had a lot of action last week. We found plenty of fliers and the fish were there also, but just not as strong as last week as far as action. We did manage, after losing a few and having a few knockdowns, to bring home 14 decent phins. No real bruisers, but decent. I think our biggest may have been around 20#. We also caught 2 cudas, and our buddy Heath landed his first sail. :slightly_smiling_face: He fought it great and was a happy camper! Then a little later, Brad fought a real screamer for a while before it got within 50’ of the boat and show itself to us before letting go. It was a real nice hoo that was longer than I am tall. That would have been a real nice topper to the box, but that’s fishing. We’ll just have to get him next time after he has grown some more!:wink: All in all, with the weather and fishing on a small boat in those not so great conditions, we had a great day on the water!! The only bad thing about the trip yesterday was that my dumb self left the fighting belts in the garage. [:0] The young bucks handled the rods well anyway. I wonder if they noticed that they got to reel in most of the fish?:wink: I imagine they have a sore spot(s) to remind them of the trip…

The ride back in was great, except for the last 55 or so miles… :face_with_head_bandage::smiley:

We didn’t get to take a lot of pics, but I know we got a pic or two of Heath and his first sail…:slightly_smiling_face:

It was nice to chat with Major League out there! I think that they had a decent day. They said that they had a long ride back, so I hope they made it back safely!

Thanks Lynn, just what I needed to hear from another missed adventure. Glad you made it home safe. Sounds like it was a bad ride out and in. Did you go out farther than last week? Talk to you later David.

Man you have big nuttz going that far on a sloppy day with one screw.

I’ll second that. We made it out about 30 miles and it wasn’t getting any better. Pelegic gave me a report that it was about the same out deep. With 2 rookies on the boat(1 already not looking good)I decided to call it and head back in. I was disappointed but i believe the other 2 were glad we did. This was my first trip this year and boy am i sore. Lynn thanks for the email and info. glad you made the best of a sloppy day.

Wonderful, last time I looked Friday was suppose to 2-3 ft. Glad I peeked in at this post. Seas now looking to be 4 ft on Friday, and that takes me and my boat out of a run to the ledge. 10 feet early next week. Guess I better grab the golf clubs.

“~130’ and had a fish on in no time that ran pretty good before spitting the hook.”

I’d put money down saying it was a wahoo. They are notorious for a blistering first run only to turn and come straight back at the boat. Gotta be ready on the reel and the throttle. This, of course, is just my very humble opinion/guess.

Everyone is destined for greatness…the rest is up to you.

lynn…nice work. that is always exciting to see someone catch their first billfish.

lynnmcd, I keep a large “Rod Huki” on my boat. I actually like it much better than a belt and it doesnt take up much room.

Nice going Lynn. I wish that the seas were a little better for ya that day, but oh well. You made it out and back, with meat in the box. Maybe you’ll find that big hoo again one day.

Aw, it wasn’t that bad. I never felt uncomfortable/unsafe.
It would be nice to have dual or triple engines, but I have to go with what I have available.

If anyone that feels I am crazy for fishing like I do in a small, single screw boat, I will gladly take any and all donations!! :slightly_smiling_face:

I wouldn’t mind having a rod huki, but I shouldn’t have forgot the belts. I use the playaction types that just fit around you, but a huki would have been nice yesterday! If I didn’t have to empty my boat out for storage, equipment could be locked on the boat. I have to keep it in our wonderful RV lot so the Crowfield Nazis don’t fine me.

Yeah, we know the drill with the wahoo, but you aren’t gonna win the battle every time (at least not us rookies)

fgl123, I am sorry that you were not able to make it out. You did the right thing with the crew you had. Hopefully, you will be able to get out there soon enough!

dwcs, we fished pretty much the same exact location as last week. We did pick up a couple more on the way back in.

Yeah Rick, it was a safe trip, but not as productive as I had hoped. That’s ok though, we brought home some meat, and everyone had a great time on the little Miss Amanda!

The seas could have been a touch nicer Adam, but we needed a day like yesterday to keep us in check. :face_with_head_bandage: We have been spoiled the last few trips.

I’m still waiting on the pics of the happy angler and his sail. Of course, I will not post the good pic… [:0]:wink:

Lynn its not the single screw as you know i have the same boat and trust it aside from all the stuff that can happen. That motor is great. Its the beating you take and the comfort issue i speak of. Hell My 31 wasn’t big enough for my wife hehehe. Good thing for me tho. I used to ride 15ft rubber zodiacs around at night in some crazy oceans. I just admire you for getting out there with what you got. I’d do it to if i hadn’t become so soft and squishy :)reminds me of and an old tv commercial guys doing girly stuff getting squashed by a beer cans hehehe. Some where along the line i got hit by a beer can heheheh Man i even ride a big old Ultra classic now. What has this women done to me.

If you were 30 miles out, why not fish there? You were in 100 ft of water.
