Pancake,…I don’t think it really matters who i or anyone likes or doesn’t like…
We are all different but the ocean binds us even if we don’t see eye to eye.
I am not envious of anyone, as I feel blessed in my own life. …and i am happy for anyone who gets to fish and enjoy the ocean and all it has to offer. I too believe that you should never take for granted that everything will always go as you plan, that you should take precautions to at leat do your part in staying safe…and if that means buying a epirb, spot, towing service or extra radio versus another rod or tackle…than that’s what you should do. One thing you cant buy is common sense. No one should ever think that mother ocean can’t slap you in the face and humble you real quick like…and you just pray that when and if it happens that you’ll be able to walk away afterwards…and I don’t think that there is a person on here that wouldn’t help another in need or distress.
Life is too short to waste it on things that are of little matter… You don’t have to be “the best” …along as you are “your best”…and humble enough to be appreciative of those who helped you get there.
I consider myself a Been ya…but yes…I crab with my daddy too…

Affinity fish, Won the Redbone last year. Great guide and good person in general
MARSHGRASS, We covered her already
Edisto fisher, Taught Phin most of what he knows that is worth knowing. Cooks and eats great food. Taste in wine is beyond reproach. Been known to go to a concert in the mountains and drink good beer, maybe moonshine too.
Phin, Close friends with the people at Haddrells. Made great strides in developing that friendship when he was selling Avet Reels from the trunk of his car. Phin claimed he couldn’t get a student loan because they didn’t give student loans for going to a pretend law school. Said the Avet sales paid his tuition at Charleston Law. Wouldn’t be where he is today if his car didn’t have a trunk.
Stretch, Just turned 30. I think he got 8 new tattoos to celebrate. Rumor has it he may be getting a haircut for next summers fishing season.
Salt fisher, Everybodies friend. Deathgrip handshake and a founding member of the Captains Lounge
Capt Fritz, for some odd reason, even unbeknownst to him, has never been band* from CF.C. Still gets the funk on his toenails though. Probably hereditary from his Been Ya relatives
Lynn, Has 3 horse shoes up his butt when he fishes offshore. Fish seek him
H20gul (andi), Drinks good vodka and is more organized than 14 regular people
This is too deep for me . . . . I’ve never met LSK and I’ve only shaken Phin’s hand once. I am still a beginner at this saltwater fishing thing and therefore I’m am still have way more to learn than I have learned.
I just wanted to post to this thread from 33,000 feet over Alabama, headed south!! We have WiFi on our plane today (I’m working, not flying commercial), and thought what better thread to post into in these conditions!!

BUMP!!
You put things in perspective. Thanks for what you do, Adam.
Okay, since I already opened my big mouth, here I go . . . . I don’t catch a lot of fish when I go out, mediocre at best. However, I do catch fish. I spent my first two seasons with my boat trying to learn the boat by staying in the harbor, in the lakes, etc. I didn’t even take it past the rocks until I had all enough safety stuff to be rescued or survive out there.
Coming from this perspective, I think the bigger point is this; how lucky you are in the amount of fish you bring into your boat should not be the yardstick you use to show how good of an overall fisherman you are. You sense of responsibility, your knowledge of the open ocean, how to navigate, how to handle rough seas, knowing the limits of your boat, and so on have nothing to do with the amount fo fish that come over the rail. So it’s kind of apples and oranges to say that because one brings in a lot of fish they are a good boater and overall fisherman. This is not to pick on LSK at all. As I said above, I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting her. I have no idea what kind of person she is. But as I’ve read these 10 pages (so far) over and over (because they are pretty funny) I get the sense that this has been missed by most.
As I said, I don’t bring in many fish, but I think that from all the good people on this site that have quite literally taught me everything I know, I am more confident in my boating abilities than I am in my knowledge of actually catching fish. In my opinion, that is the bigger point here and I think a lot are missing it.
