So we planned a week at the Wild Dunes on the IOP and had rain and wind from Friday to Sunday. Monday started to show some promise so I got my gear together and headed or to the surf. The blues were tearing up my bait until the tide started coming in. A 5oz pyramid was enough to keep it in the water. Not sure how long this red was as I brought him in about 50 feet down the beach from my gear. I also had a second one take a whole mullet but the hook was to small for the mullet so it didn’t set. Going to try again today and see what happens.
There you go. Nice fish ! Looks like “Red October” is here.

Good looking red Walkman, thanks for the post, you have given me faith for the weekend, everyones wondering how storm will impact the fishing and whether they were in or not, your fish has answered that question, thank you. Is that water starting to get chilly, do I need to break out a jacket? Also were the tides real high from storm and rain?
NIICCE!
Glad there are still some fish around.
Runbabyrun, I think the tides were already high from the 100 year tide or what ever its called. Almost no room on the beach at high tide at the Port of Call in the Wild Dunes. Water was colder today with an air temp of 67F. Seems that noonish with the incoming tide is best with whole mullet from 3 to 6 inches long either just behind the breakers or just in front of the furthest breaking wave. Caught these 2 today with that way. I honestly don’t know how long they were as the scale on my cart only goes to 22 1/2" but I’m guessing they were 36"+. Tonight I picked up a cheap fish grip with scale an a better pair of gloves…those two tore my thumb and fingers up with the teeth “they don’t have”
great news and gives a lot of faith for this coming weekend, thanks!
I fish to leave the rest of the world behind. I fish because I respect the fish. I fish because it’s in my DNA.
Daaaaaam you are killing it, so happy for ya! Those are some good size reds, there will probably be a few people crashing your party this weekend, stake your claim early if your planning on going back out, and if you see Mr Parker tell him I said hello:sunglasses: Just a little tip, take pics with ocean in back round so you can keep your spot under the radar. Fantastic work Walkman, hells to the yea.
Rumbabyrun, I hear what your saying, is a short walk for me here and although I know people on this forum don’t mind hiking it, it’s a good hike from any public access to this spot. Honestly I wouldn’t mind some company, especially bull Angeles that know what they are doing since I’m still a novice at this. And an extra set of hands is always good as people that stop and watch don’t want to get slimy and help. I’d love to learn more.
Oh, one more thing, we are leaving Saturday, vacation will over so I don’t know if I’ll be out, but I’m off Monday for Columbus day so I’ll probably be back out somewhere on the IOP
You can put up allot of fish between now and saturday- hammer them while you can. Thanks for the report, I was a little worried about this weekend and you made me feel a whole lot better.
…could you leave one for me?..pretty please? [:I] Maybe two…okay just one.
And agree with runbaby…kill…ing…it!
Wish I had vacation
AND DON’T MAKE ME LEAVE WORK EARLY!!!
You’ll find me in your spot with the “SIX WIDE” out!
Your killin’ me Walkman. Nice fish. That’s what I call a dream vacation !

Mr. Parker, bring it! Lol, already set on the beach and I would welcome any company. Should be a good day, sunny, surf is calm and a slight breeze. Warm enough to take my shirt off.
Went out Thursday and Friday night, Thursday produced a 22 inch stingray, a 24 inch FL fine tooth shark, and the evening ended up with another finetooth, a sharpnose and a 41 inch red. Friday night about an hour age dark the Persuit started spooling out and after a couple minutes went dead. I think it was another red, but as it had happened earlier in the week, the hook never set. I’m switching to 10/0s from now on. The blues were a pain in the but all week feeding on my bait. So all in all not a bad week even though Wednesday and Friday didn’t do anything
Walkman love that hat, that will keep you dry lol, you are a quick study and have quickly landed your 40, or shall I say 41, thats one badass fish! So where you going on vacation next year Im guessing not Disney World.
LOL, you would be surprised how much a LED lantern hanging from a beach umbrella lights up an area. Probably back to the Dunes but we are considering Pawley’s Island as it gets really deep really close to the beach.
