More Shrooms...

All this rain has Mushrooms popping up everywhere. Was checking where my Chantrelles have been growing, and found a bunch of these. Desarmillaria Caespitose A.K.A. Honey mushrooms. Edible…but I’m still wary about trying types new to me.

I saw tons of varieties yesterday… anyone know what these are?

The ones that look like fans are, Turkey Tail Mushrooms ( Trametes Versicolor )

You need to get much closer when taking pics. The other pics are to small for identification.

Joined this forum today, which helps with identification.

The round ones growing in a clump, look like, Jack O Lanterns, which are poisonous.

If I get back there, I’ll get some better pics. Now I’m looking, I’m seeing tons of crazy looking shrooms all around. I think I’ll stick to the store bought for now. Thank you for posting that link. Very informative stuff in that forum

I have some that look like the ones in the first post in my backyard. I love shrooms but, I am not willing to eat ones I have to identify myself.

I totally agree with Dfreedom. I’d never trust myself to pick them / identify…
Be up on your roof stripping your clothes off trying to fly.

I’ve never had shrooms in my yard before. I go out to the shed this morning and I have shrooms popping up everywhere.

You find things offensive. I find things funny. That's why I'm happier than you.

Same here, never seen so many mushrooms in my yard before. Must have 50 clumps of these brown ones, and have been picking the yellow ones ( Chantrelles ) for over a month.

Guy’s, I love some mushrooms, but, as others have said, worried about being wrong…

Great topic tho!!

My sister in law is a Mycologist, so when in doubt I check with her.

Phone number needed to text pics…LOL

Just messing.

several bunches of these at Mom and dad’s. Not sure is it that I’m looking more for em, or they are really pentiful this year and all kinds of different ones.

Any one? I’m thinking it looks a lot like you pic Stilhunr? I love mushrooms, but I don’t have a clue as to identifying them. I remember My grandma telling me if you see a squirrel eating one, it’ ok. I do remember my Uncle up in the Timmonsville had a lot of the sycadelic ones growing in his cow pasture and had people actually jumping fence and picking them. He got some kind of antifungal additive to put in their feed and then no mushrooms would grow in the dokie.

Those are Honey Mushrooms, same as my pics. The younger one’s caps look like umbrellas, then turn up and look like funnels when they are older. When they decay they are pretty gross looking. They are edible, but I still haven’t tried to eat any of them yet. Been a banner year for Mushrooms, I’ve never seen so many everywhere.

I noticed driving through my neighborhood yesterday that one of my neighbors has about 10 clumps of those funky looking shrooms in their front yard. Never recall seeing so many.

I was doing some digging on eating the Honey Mushrooms, but it says they have to be cooked or they are Poisons. ? I’m out. Unless I can get with someone that is a professional and eats some with me, I’m out.

No doubt a banner year for mushrooms of all varieties. I was gonna take more pics of some different kinds close to the creek, but I was to lazy to get off the tractor. I’ll have to admit, I had no clue what a Mycologist was. That’s who ya need with you for mushroom Id.

How’s the hunting? Just put a little doe into jerky minus the back straps. They will go on the grill tonight. I got a grinder for Christmas last year, I think I’m just gonna do all mine myself since my “go to” processor shut down. Mr. Breland near Black Creek Church gave it up.

Honey Mushrooms are edible. You should never eat wild Mushrooms raw though, always cook them. We made Jerky last week  Really haven’t been putting much effort into hunting yet…it’s just been to hot.

Was supposed to take the Daughter hunting this afternoon, but she didn’t want to hunt in the rain. Need to change her SD card Monday when I go hunting myself. Been 3 weeks now since it was checked because she skipped out of hunting last Saturday too.

having a mycologist in the family is awesome. i may reach out at some point if i find something cool.

think these are honey mushrooms as well, the next day they were visibly deteriorating already.

Yep, look like Ringless Honeys. They don’t last very long.

Some of the ones I found while Deer hunting Monday and this morning.

The shelf looking orange one is some king of Polypore, non-edible. Haven’t tried to ID the other two yet. I walked from my boat into an Oak hill about 500 yards Monday afternoon, taking my time watching for Deer…could not believe the number and different types of Mushrooms I came across.

cool.

those honey mushrooms were 100 yards from the bank of the Savannah river, and I saw an amazing variety of other ones there too. river was still rising when we struck camp Sunday, rained like crazy Thursday/Friday.

these just go straight into the shrimp risotto tonight:
