More than fish biting on the Naval Weapon Station

I am new to Lowcountry fishing but I consider myself “broken in” or initiated after tonight.

I was out exploring the Naval Weapon Station to do some pier fishing at dusk. I put in a bottom rig with a whole finger mullet and worked a popper along the edge of the pier. I heard some surface action and went over to throw my lure and saw…a 7 foot gator! It was getting dark so I reeled up my bottom rig and had what looked like a catfish but before I could get it over the rail the gator came over and relieved me of my first fish of any size in SC. Interesting night!

welcome to the lowcountry! i had an 8-9 footer grab the chicken in my crab trap and play tug of war with me a few weeks ago so thats nothing new. was that at wharf alpha???

I think so. It was my first time there and I saw signs for Wharf Alpha.

probably was. youll probably run into me there as well since im there all the time.

Back in the day I use to get a pass to get on the weapons station to fish , of course now that is impossible ! But anyways me and some friends would stay out there all night and fish ! We had most our luck on Bravo and Charlie and the floating dock behind the officers club which I’m positive is not there anymore .
