Have read post on monkeys on Morgan Island as well as directions but can they only be seen by boat or is there a dock or landing and which side of island or where is best place and times to see them. Have heard about them for years and would like to finally check them out with family.
Pull up to the south side of the island between the tip of the Morgan River sandbar and the beach on the very end of Morgan Island. Sit in the water just off the marsh grass and wait for them to come out of the trees. You can’t go onto the island. There is no dock. The island is completely cut off because the monkeys were used for testing purposes. Keeping a safe distance is the only option.

and no matter what you may think, the monkeys are there. They take awhile to come out, but if you’re patient they should come out to play.

Closest way there is from Eddings Point landing. Go right to the Morgan River and then run about 2 miles to right. About midways the south side you will see the big 4x8 signs. There is a mud bank bar that stick way out from the back corner. Go around it and back to the left a bit. Will be sandy high ground with taller trees. Park close to the edge there and wait - you will see them. They are there.

Thanks for the info. Am going to try to get down either this Sat or Sun.depending on weather. Will be putting in at the Dawho Ramp and coming down the ICW to ■■■■■■■ cutting over to the Ashepoo. Have been to both sides of Otter Island many times so I guest I have been looking across at Morgan Island. Would it be better to come down Ashepoo to Otter and cut across to Morgan or follow ICW all the way. BFT, when you say the south end are you talking about the St. Helena sound end that looks across to Otter Isl. Looking at the chart there appears to be a large bar at the St. Helena Sound end of the island.

From ■■■■■■■ cut, follow ICW all the way to Parrott Creek which is on the west side of Morgan (monkey) Island. Then head back towards ocean in Morgan River. You can see Dataw Marina up the Morgan River to the west but you should turn east toward ocean. Be careful of long shallow sand bar the runs parrallel to Morgan Island. You can come across St Helena sound at high tide from ■■■■■■■ but there are many shallows on less than high tide. Some will be very shallow and some will be high and dry at less than high tide.
