Spent 4-5 Hours down at the MT. Pleasant Pier. Was hoping to see some Sheephead come over the side. All that I witnessed people catching were small bluefish and tiny spot. Had my fill of those, but on my last drop, I caught a 2-1/2 lb whiting. It is basically the only thing I have ever landed from this pier that I have brought home. I tried live fiddlers, shrimp, and clams, no sheephead in sight. Can you guys advise is it not the right time of year for the sheepshead? I would imagine with all the little structures around the pier it is a good spot. I just always seem to not catch anything of size here, I am always moving to find structure, and have logged and few good spots where the fish should be, but being new to the area I would love to hear if I am missing something or if you guys have had similar luck at this pier. Thanks for all the great advice and guidance fellas. I really enjoy reading everyone’s posts.
When i was there a few weeks ago i tried ny hand at sheepshead for the first time. I was using a 1oz egg sinker and a size 1 jhook with a live fidler crab. There bite is so subtle that i lost all my crabs not knowing i was getting bites. I switched to a light bass rod and started catching them. I threw the bait pretty much on the side of the concrete pillars.
Thanks for the info Stevo! It looks like you have your hands full catching those big redfish! Keep em coming! Tight lines! I am still on a quest to catch a (**() sheepshead. I have tried everything. Light tackle, different baits different size bait… still nothing! I am not quitting until I catch a few! I am used to catching tautog up north, but just cannot figure it out down here yet. I appreciate the advice.
Thanks
Jb,
Ive never fished the pier but ive caught sheepshead all over the rocks under the bridge. Lighter weigh, braid and fluorocarbon are what works for me. Live fiddlers and keep your line tight. Pull the rod up and down slowly, when you feel resistance its likely a fish. If you’re reeling in small pieces of fiddler shells on your hook then you’re in the right spot. The bite is very subtle. Also, if you’re on the pier move from piling to piling until you’re getting hit. Good luck

It’s getting to be that time of year for sheeps on the pier. We’ve seen a number of 5 lb - 7 lb fish lately and yesterday weighed this 9 lb 11 oz beast caught by Jiggin’ Jerry.
That’s a stud sheepie! Looks like dinner.

Jerry is a knowledgeable guy and I think he has a series of videos on youtube. It might help you a bunch.
