Much needed fishing trip

Murrymaker took me and David out yesterday where we had a ball catching close to 30 Stripers!! As some of you have read I haven’t caught a fish in over 2 months. Chip is a fine fisherman and a good person for taking us. Learned alot and thanks again Chip.

Way to go, Agent. I think the first one (especially in a long while) can often be the hardest. I’m sure more will be coming. Chip shares a lot on this forum and beyond.

That’s great! I saw and waved at you guys on my way back up the lake around 3ish. Didn’t know who else was onboard with Chip. I’m so glad you caught some. Take what you learned and run with it. Chip is a very knowledgeable angler.

Any time agent…really enjoyed the company. Wish we could have gotten onto some more quality fish but guess they were waiting on today to bite. .ha

Needless to say I thought it was going to be a tough day on Saturday but we had fish on within 15/20 min of putting lines out and we pretty much picked at them the entire day. Stopped counting fish after 20 but easily had another 10 or so. Even had 2 triples…only had 8 keepers but a couple were nice.

Today I only fished a half day with lakefan5150 from 7-12 and had a solid morning…probably around 20 fish or so but had 9 keeps and 4 were between 7-8#…float rod was the ticket today set WAY back…

Saturday we fished around Midlake and today we fished a mudline that was running east/west which I thought was weird since you normally see the ML running north/south, but hey it worked…

Just curious, what were some of the differences in what you were doing and what you learned from chip? Other than running 6 planers, a float and 2 freelines.

Excellent question! It will be interesting to know, given all the advice that was thrown his way on the multipage topic earlier. Standing by…

First of all I think Murrymaker knows how to keep bait alive and well with his bait tank arrangemet. Also, he had a good idea where to fish that day.

And second of all?..

and second of all Agent has been sworn to secrecy as to the location of Chip’s latest honey hole … LOLOLOL

Lol…not hardly…I told plenty of people where I was fishing including many at tonight’s meeting and fog even seen me so no secret…ha…not to mention with these warming temps I think my pattern isn’t going to hold… so I will probably end up fishing blind Saturday. …

All that being said seems the problem agent was having was Def the bait. It doesn’t matter if you pull a 11-13 rod spread or 4 rod…If your bait isn’t right the fish aren’t going to be as interested. Agent learned about water quality, water temps, that killer foam, etc…next day his best purchase was a bottle of no foam…it won’t be long and I am sure he will be offering advice.

I’m with you Chip (fishing blind) and it looks like I’ll be down two crew members on Saturday as well since we found out tonight that RJ has pneumonia …

Wish we could have made it tonight, but after checking his temp and reading 102.2 we needed to take him to the doctor …

Yes, I did already purchase no foam but also looking for a different type of bait tank with a filtration system. I swear it looked like you could drink the water in Chip’s bait tank even at the end of the day.

Lawcrusher- Best of luck and I hope for a quick recovery for RJ.

Agent- If you have the same brand No Foam as me (white botle, orange and blue label)- learn from me on this one, you only need a drop or two. Read the label carefully.

I took a trick from lawcrusher. Take the no foam pour 2 capfulls into a 12oz or similar bottle. Fill rest of bottle with water…A good shake to mix well. Get a standard spray nozzle that goes on glass cleaner etc. It will screw right on a soda bottle. A single spray will work for any tank. And last forever. It also works much faster than adding a couple drops. Guess it spreads it throughout the water surface faster this way…but it is the best method I have ever used thanks to lawcrusher

laziness and lack of $$ are the parents of innovation … LOLOL

Thanks for the tip.

What does fishing blind mean? Do you turn off all electronics? Never heard that one.

Fishing blind (as Chip is saying it) is when the weather changes from one weekend to the next which means everything we did and marked last weekend will be blown out (literally judging from the current forecast for this weekend) and we’ll have to start from scratch on Saturday … Those guys that have years of experience fishing various weather conditions will have an advantage for the upcoming weekend … Those of us that have only been doing it for a few months (like us as this is our first Fall/Winter/Spring season we’ve ever fished Lake Murray) are screwed … LOL …

The lake drawdown in December coupled with the large amounts of rain coupled with the erratic weather in Jan/Feb (Snow-Rain-Warm-Snow-Ice-Snow-Rain-Earthquake-Warm-Cold-Hot-Rain … you get the picture) makes finding these fish frustrating at best for us new guys …

Chip knows what he’s going to do, but everyone is holding their cards close right now because of the MSC tournament this weekend and the SBCC tournament next weekend (I think) …

Those guys have their goals set towards placing in the TX … I just want to be able to bring 4 fish to the scales … I don’t care if they are all 21" fish … I just want 4 keepers… LOL

We all pretty much try to fish the weekend before a TX so we can get an idea of where fish are and why they are in that area…If conditions are constant for a week, technically those fish should be in that same area. So you plan on fishing the same area the next weekend…but when things change like all the warm weather we are having this week, fish tend to develop a different pattern than when you caught them.

So now it’s TX morning and the weather has been hit and miss. You literally have to find fish again or “fish an area blind” (not knowing if something is there or not)…

But with all that being said I am hoping a couple 30* nights this week are gonna keep them on the same pattern they were in this weekend.

Yes I caught A LOT of short fish but both days I had around 30# of weight in 4 fish. Just had to put time in on the spot and dig through the shorts…and ANY MSC boat would love to have 30# on a weigh in.

And now I have totally jinxed myself and I will probably get a big ol? skunk on sat…ha
