Mud minnow question

Prepping for annual family trip to the beach. Heading to Edisto in the near future. I would like to try mud minnows for the 1st time plus I want to give the kids a minnow trap and see if they can catch bait. Anyone have much luck with mud minnows in the surf? I was thinking carolina rig with a thin wire hook but wondering if it would be better on a jig head. I am not giving up on shrimp and cut bait. Just wanting to try something new. Thanks in advance.

I would work them on a jig, slow along the bottom for a flounder.

Olde Man Charters

Its worth a try. My little boy like the minnow traps too. They may do good in the surf. I know the blue fish like to bite them off right behind the head.

Thanks. Never caught a flounder so I will give it a try.

If you are going to be in Edisto, you’ll only be a few minutes drive to Botany Bay Reserve. They have a large salt water pond - Jason’s Pond/Lake that is very easy to fish. It’s a no keep pond but it’s a ton of fun - plus Botany Bay Reserve is beautiful.

I have been meaning to see Botany Bay and may have to visit this year. Wife and kids would also be fishing. I’m guessing we would end up fishing the surf as they prefer the beach. I’ll try to give a report if we go. Thanks.
