Hello all,
I’m fairly new here in Charleston and have been reading the forums here a little. Anyone have a good spot to trap mud minnows near or around the Hanahan area?
No idea…but ride around areas where there is a marsh in the general visinity. Try to ride around at low tide for that area. Look for ditches/small creeks that are holding water. Put a minnow trap there.
You catch easier on the lower end of the tide when the bait is concenterated.
The “bait” for your trap doesn’t matter…no matter what anyone tells you.

Thanks for the response. Haven’t found any good spots yet but still fairly new to the area. I’m with you. I’ve never found any bait (catfood, chicken, fish) to be any better than the other. If the minnows are there they will find it.
Wherever you find a spot, try and keep it out of sight, they have been known to disappear. Can of cat food with holes in the can works for me.
Turkey Creek. Runs under North Rhett. You could also make a short trip to the boat landing area off Virginia Ave. I usually toss a coupe old shrimp in it. Busted blue crab works great also.
Second and third what salty dog said, I had a great little spot off of battery island drive off of Folly Rd that was never completely empty at low tide. Other folks keep traps there as well, which made me think it was a safe spot. Until two went missing over the course of two weeks. It never ceases to amaze me…no matter what state I’m in.
