dang right!
Where’s Fred when you need him
We text often, a few times already this week.
I sent those to him before putting them here, lol.
He knows I unlocked the door if he wants to come back, and I see him peeking in occasionally.
He still gives me perdition
We’re good, contrary to what maNNy think.
It occurred to me that it’s time to resurrect this since i have gnats flying into my nose while I water.
Berries are horny already, potatoes are sad from snow, garlic is halfway there, and the lettuce and carrots are way too late…
so we’ll see what we get this spring
Yessir
Shad roe and starting the garden
Another new beginning
I got a few things started and still getting kale
I just got my first house and will be in SC for my first growing season in about 15 years. Claire and I had big plans to build out a yard farm this year for max production next year. Currently have started watermelons, a squash variety from the Virgin Islands, basils and mints. Claire is the green thumb of the family and will be moving here late April which is when the garden will be getting going.
I am fixing to build a bunch of 4’x8’ raised beds an will be filling them over time.
Will check back once we have something to check back in about.
Woah, congrats!
I’ve still got winter stuff in and I’m skipping the cuke and mater routine in the beds this round. Julie loves the lettuce, and the kids will pick a snack carrot anytime they’re allowed, whiffed on the snow peas this time too. Life has been too busy kicking me in the nuts lately.
Having tried something every year since you dog/garden sat for us around 15 years ago, here’s my cheap seat 2 cents:
Plant what you can now, throw stuff in containers if you ain’t framed up yet. summer comes too fast and pests/heat tend to make life real hard by uncle Sam’s birthday
New dirt for tomatoes
Cukes in the ground now or you’re too late on the borers
Hard squash yes, good for containers and corners where it can run off into the bushes. Makes good ground cover like those melons, but soft squash will hurt your feelings IMHO
Sman has forgotten more about this than I’ll ever know, ima sit down now
Wow, I haven’t even turned ground or started a single seed. That broccoli is proper
I’m gonna scale back this year
I have squash and zucchini in the ground but that’s about it right now. I also tried a row of sweet corn, so we’ll see how that goes.
Katie started the zinnias in the raised bed and they just popped up about an inch so far.
Pumpkins get planted around July 4th.
Usually corn needs a few smaller rows to do the best. A single row is extremely vulnerable to wind damage. Short rows hold each other up better.
Plus, wind pollinates corn, so although not imperative, it is advised to plant a small plot vs a row.
My .02 cents
That’s something i did not know, thank you for that.
Nice yard. Yes, each strand of silk atop a corn ear connects to an individual grain on the ear.
If a single strand of silk doesn’t get pollinated, then a blank spot will be on the cob.
I know dat spot. I will be visiting that school of fish that hangs out under your dock next winter.

Come on by anytime Rap, but the big boys are in the big river!
