My Son's First Day Offshore

Well it was only 14 miles. It was awesome to see him out there. He was so brave overcoming his fears and fishing with daddy. He told me all day that he was happy. We caught way toooooo many sharks. But we also caught:
5 Gags
40-45 BSB (Some reallly big ones)
2 Kings
We started fishing @ 11am and stopped at 5:30pm

He is only 4 1/2. He started fishing with me when he was 18 months on striper lakes in Fl. I would put the pack in play in the bow of the boat and he would take his naps in there. I think his first trip we caught 4 or 5 hybrids. If he would have been too disturbed we would have turned around and came in. He did awesome. No sea sickness.

That puts a smile on my face. My wife is @ a friends doing some work for Santa tonight. I found myself going through pics on the computer of some fishing photos. The best ones aren’t the big bloody dock shots. They’re my kids holding their trophy pinfish, bsb, and pogies. I’ve got em 4,6 and 7. All fish and love the time with dad and vice/versa. That is what it’s all about. Unless the bluefin show, of course! Then it’s time for dad to play with the big kids. Not that you need the endorsement, but good work!

Glad the little one had a good time. I always love to get my kids out there.

Congrats on a special day. It must be a wonderful thing to see. I cannot wait until I get to do the same.

Funny how we complain about catching sharks, but it’s probbly the coolest fish to catch when you’re that age.

I’m sure he had a blast! What a better way for a kid to spend the day instead of sitting in front of that mind-numbing TV. Good job P1.

I say if he can pull a Gag out of the rocks then he’s ready for a beer.

My brother took his 4.5year old daughter duck hunting this year. Funny stuff. He swore it was the first time he’s ever had his hunting partner try to sit in his lap.

I’m not buying it though. It get’s cold in those blinds.

Let’s just say I have hunted with your brother and it is the first time he admitted such…

This was a big victory for him. He was previously scared of the sound of the engines and the rocking of the boat. But he overcame both and had a great day. I would have had him out there at a younger age but I went at the pace he was able to handle. Never too young to start fishing.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

My Son is getting OK with the motor sounds and he likes boat wakes, but his big problem seems to be wearing the life jacket. Momma has him in one that makes him look like a pig in a blanket. I wonder if I can put 40 feet of line on his Bream Buster…

We have played with different life jackets. The ones that hold the neck too stiff always caused problems for our kids. I have to put reflector tape on the one in the pic to make it an offshore jacket.
