My girlfriend and I are going to be spending a weekend in Myrtle in a couple weeks (ahead of the spring break mayhem) and we’re planning on taking the rods. I know the water is still gonna be cold but our hotel is on the water and fishing is one of the few free activities in the area. Anyone have any suggestions? Never fished the area and wouldn’t be opposed to trying something different. Right now the plan is to scout a spot from the balcony, walk down, and pop out bait

More specific on location? Might be able to point you in a “better” direction. But man, Myrtle Beach surf fushing in the winter months? Talk about slow.
We’re about 3/4 a mile north of the boardwalk. I don’t know how familiar with the area you are, but we’re relatively close to the convention center

You will probably find more information on Myrtle Beach area on this forum, if you haven’t found it already.

Hope that helps.
People are still catching whiting, black drum and dog fish at Springmaid pier. As for the surf, good luck. Nothing much is going on around here. I fished Pawleys Island a few weeks ago for 4 hours and only got one bite.

Thanks for the report. From what I can gather, I think I’m glad I’ll be there in the off season. Looks like that place turns into a zoo in the summer. Any direction on the pier?

Carp,
Bike weeks are a pain in the butt. traveling 17 or 501 is exhausting. the off season is great if you want to relax, but normally, fishing is slow from december until march. As for pier fishing, I would try springmaid pier(myrtle beach) and apache pier(north myrtle beach). I was there a few weeks ago and the croaker/whiting bite was strong, but that was it. Lots of good reports about the jetty in murrells inlet. the south jetty is a wonderful place to fish, but you have to walk 1.5 miles to the jetty. The north jetty in garden city is less of a walk, but you have to be there before high tide. a large portion of the beach will flood so you are stuck for about 2 hours after low tide. hope this helps
