late on a Monday night. That blows. Why not a Saturday night? People traveling would be in better shape having the weekend off. Game and trophy presentation we probably will not be in bed before 1230 am. Dumb. Plain dumb.
Been complaining about the Super Bowl being on Sunday for years. No one can come up with a good enough reason to convince me that more money is made on Sunday night TV ads than on Saturday night. Same with Monday games.

As a whole, across the country Sunday afternoon/early night has a much more captive audience. There is the fans that are going to watch it no matter when it is televised (they don’t worry about those fans) and then there are the once a year SB fans that really only watch it if there is nothing else to do. they are after those people and there are 10’s of millions of them with nothing to do on Sunday afternoon.

I don’t go out either but, ratings were way down for those games compared to last year.
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?
OK, so did you like them on NYE? While lower than last years games, they still seem to have done pretty good. Last year, all the games were on Jan 1. The Rose Bowl and Sugar are guaranteed to be played on Jan 1 no matter if the game is a playoff game or not. That is why every 3rd year they are on Jan 1. Because of this I think it is a scheduling thing. They can’t have them on Jan 1 when they are not the Rose or Sugar, too many games on one day. If they push them to after Jan 1 then the NC game gets pushed back more. I don’t know why they need more than a week either! I would watch no matter they are, but I am happy with NYE!!
· New Year’s Eve Overnights Up Significantly; Highest Cotton Bowl On Record; Highest Orange Bowl Since 2006
The College Football Playoff Semifinal’s first appearance on New Year’s Eve resulted in strong numbers on ESPN’s television and digital (WatchESPN) platforms. The College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, in which No. 2 Alabama defeated No. 3 Michigan State 38-0 (New Year’s Eve at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN), earned a 9.9 overnight rating, tied for ESPN’s fifth best overnight for a non-Championship college football game on record (approximately 1350 games). The College Football Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl, which resulted in No. 1 C

It’s the $$$. By having it on Sunday / Sunday night allows for Saturday to be a hype day to sell advertising. Once the game is played, the revenue stream stops
It is as dumb as the playoff games on new years eve.

Because only fans of the 4 teams and AVID CFB fans will change NY eve plans to watch it.
Hence what DF said. Ratings were down 35%. That is HUGE
Seems like more fans than “just the fans of the schools” watched it! Granted, nothing will beat Jan 1 for ratings, but as stated in earlier post, unless it is the Rose or Sugar it isn’t happening on Jan 1 in the near future. I am positive that the powers that be (TV) have studied this and know more than us when they would make the most money and that is directly tied to ratings. I personally like NYE better than after, due to it probably having to go back to work the day after, like the dang NC game!!
