need fishing information for Hilton Head SC

I am going to Hilton Head SC next week 5/11 to the 15 need fishing information. I know very little about fishing there. First question is there a pier on the island? I have a med weight salt water rod and reel what size hooks and sinkers would I need? Do you need a fishing license? Would I better served fishing from the shore and if so were and how. Thanks for the help and information

This type of basic information would be cumbersome for this board to answer. Not much right on HHI in the way of public piers except Charles C . Haigh, Jr., Fishing Pier on Pinckney Is…unless you drive from HHI to Beaufort and fish the Broad River pier or out to Hunting Island State Park…a 40+ mile drive. Here’s a link to DNR pier access in Beaufort County:

I would be prepared to visit Southern Drawl Outfitters, 1533 Fording Island Rd #316, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926 and let them get you “tackled up” for what fishing is available and good advice on where to go. They can also hook you up with a local guide if that’s in your budget.

Good luck…

You will need a $10 saltwater fishing license…and I forgot to mention most public boat ramps have a dock you can fish from…just be prepared to move lines for boat launching.

If you are a SC resident it’s $10. If not it’s about $37.50 online for a year. They also have 10 day license I think. Yes, you need a license, the fine cost a lot more than the license:wink:

Good suggestions under prior posts. Not much going on a Haig Pont fishing pier other than some sheepshead using fiddler crabs right next to pilings. Other than fishing at Broad River Birdge fishing pier( best option) is to try off beach next to groin at Port Royal Plantation. You can also buy a ticket on a local Head Boat or go big time and book a 1/2 day charter who will definitely put you on the fish . Surf fishing off beach generally very poor at best.

If you fish from shore, cast out as far away from shore as possible. If you fish from a boat, cast as close to shore as possible.

Or if you’re like wildlifesc or Cracker Larry, the fish will find you and offer themselves up willingly.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Man I wish! They don’t like my new boat. Started the day with three bass early, then picked up the wife and struggled to get a keeper trout.

If old boats catch more fish, mine should be a fish magnet!
