NEED HELP ASAP WITH BEAGLES!

I have all registered beagles and one beagle walker mix deer dog all of which have no blood relation and range in age from one year to five years old. I also have one walker dog. I have been feeding Pride dog food for the last three years. Starting this year, everything with beagle in it has been falling out within less than 2 miles whether running or trailing. They act like it’s some type of heat stroke or seizure. Their head locks at a 90* angle and they have no muscle control and/or throw up and have a very hard breathing, almost like they’re going to die. My walker dog is fine. Is anybody out there experiencing or hearing of the same symptoms? I have spent $400 at the vets office on blood work and lung x-rays with Dr. Brock Sauls. I’ve also talked to Dr. Deloach in Walterboro and the area veterinarian. Everybody is baffled. The best advice I have gotten from professionals is wait till one dies, freeze it and send it to Clemson for autopsies. I have changed pens, water and dog food. Since changing the dog food, twice in the last two weeks, my dogs actually ran 4 miles at 6 miles an hour(I know this because I have Garman collars on them) and had no problems. Anybody that knows anyone that knows anyone that has this type of problem, please let me know something on this forum or call me at 534-6700. I need help now. Please only respond if you’re serious. Thank you for your help.

can’t help, but please let us know what you find. If it was a horse I’d say mold. But dogs aren’t much affected by that. Dr. Deloach is top notch. On the feed look at the ingredients. Dogs are Omnivores. Most feeds are vegetable “fluff” with others contains ingredients such as chicken feathers. A dog can’t perform on a vegetarian diet. Most don’t like it but even little foo foo puppy needs a strict diet of meat.

That is really odd. Epilepsy is a common train in beagles, but to have all of them start going off at the same time means it’s something in the environment. Did they test for lead poisoning? That can cause seizures.

They tested all blood levels for normal organ functions, and all of their levels where normal, x-rayed the lungs-normal.
I have been feeding Pride dog food 27/20 during deer season and the 18/10 off season. I have some people on my club that have a relative in Hemmingway SC that is having the same problem. He was also feeding Pride, that is the only common denominator we have. We cannot be the only two people in the world. And it is just with the beagle beagle/walkers. The big dogs are fine.
I am going to try and boost their protein and sugar levels with a homemade supplement and see if it helps get them up again.

I use to have one of my rabbit pack beagles that had seizures. Would keel over and kick a couple times - 'bout time I would get to worring she would pop up - shake her head - and back hunting like nothing happened. Non of the others had it. For all to have issues at the same time I would say the food too. Good thing is it’s easy to try different.

Seeing the same thing ButcheBoy in my beagles and walkers as well. Switched feed four days ago.

Second one died this morning. I’m just heartbroken.

Beagle
I am sorry to hear that. How are you? I have not seen any post from you for a while. Have you been hunting? I am in Istanbul, Turkey today. will be back in woods tomorrow, finally.

Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

Hi partners I’m doing well. I’ve been working so much the past year or so I’ve had little time to post. Only hunted a few times so far myself. I got one a couple weeks ago and beagleman got one last night. Our youngest son got his first two weeks ago in ft motte. I am sitting into stand as I type.

Butcher I called a mr Burke with pride/highland feed today and was told there were no recalls and that they do test for mold. Told him I changed brands five days ago.

Beaglewoman, very sorry to hear about your dogs, I have more to say and ask than I can type. I would really like to talk to you and Beagleman about the whole thing. I know of people in Hemmingway, Columbia, Walterboro, you, and myself (10) people total so far, that are having these problems and the only thing I am finding as the common denominator is the Pride dog food.
Please call me at your earliest 843-534-6700.

post check

Bud Adams your post is good.
Everyone that has had problems like mine needs to check out speeddog.com-message board-sick dog posted by Bud Adams.
Bud do you want to put Joe McCleens contact info on here?
I am sure there will be much more to come, TOGETHER we can put a stop to this.
Also if any of you have a bag of the pride dog food and or the dog food itself, PLEASE save it so we can get it tested, the actual bag will have the lot number we need also.

Butch I heard about this happening a few years ago too from some of the guys that were visiting our club, Sandhill up 17A over the river…

glad to hear someone tying it down to food, if I remember right that guy was tying it to epilepsy

btw I still need to come back n swap out my two j/c summer sausages for plain… be there soon, been waitin to drop another deer to come by with…

you guys do an excellent job, I’ve used everyone around at one time or another but have stuck with y’all since the 2nd year u opened IIRC because of several things but one of the most important to me is I like your summer sausage better than others…

pitch you guys quite often, keep up the good work

hope you get it figured out for your dogs real soon! sorry to hear…

Rob

'bout time

Is this the same kind of activity your dog was experiencing?

I have been having some problems with this particular dog, and he was on Pride. He would act like this for 15-20 min. after not really doing much, then drink a ton of water and be fine again.

I switched 2-3 weeks ago, and he seems better, but not 100% sure.
