Need suggestions on new Surf Rod

Looking to buy a new surf rod that is durable for saltwater fishing. I have a problem with sand getting in my rods. Not sure what causes my rod to get stuck everytime I leave the beach.

Stuck as in you have a 2 piece rod and you can’t get them apart?

I use Penn and Ugly Stick surf rods. No problems with them at all.

7 foot ugly stik tiger rod is my favorite. There’s really no need for anything longer in the surf around here.

I really like a 9’ rod for the extra flinging distance, but 7’ is great too. To be honest I have caught more fish on my 7’ Ugly Stik than most of my bigger rods combined.

I use a 8’ foot rod for surf, agree about Ugly Stik, Penn as well.

I’ll throw in another vote for Ugly Stik. There’s a reason every rod I currently own is an Ugly Stik. I will tell you to stay away from their GX2 line, though. They have “stainless” guides that aren’t exactly stainless. Like killinR said, 7’ is all you really need, and at that length you don’t need a 2-piece rod.

Try the Ugly Stik Custom, Have quite a few of them, very satisfied

Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.

wooddog, pick up 3 or 4 IMX 1085’s, you won’t catch any more fish, or cast any further, but you will have some REALLY nice surf rods…really. Seriously though, get what ever you like that works well for you. I use 8’-9’ M/H-H 2pc surf rods. What kind of rods you have that won’t come apart? Do you lay them on the beach?

Get in touch with Russell Shipe at https://www.facebook.com/requiemcustomrods. He’ll set you up with anything you need. He built the rod for my Avet 80w and I personally watched him spend 4-hours wrapping it, not liking it, tore it off, and started over. He treats every rod like he’s building it for himself. Mention me (Mike P) and he’ll give you a 10% discount.

Get a 7’ med-heavy ugly stick. Keep the reel out of the water and never, ever lay it down on the beach. Really long cast are hardly needed, you will be casting beyond the fish. If there are no troughs to fish, you’re in the wrong place.

What are you fishing for? That to me is the first question to be asked. Next what kind of reel.

For metal and light rigs I like my Tsunami Airwave 8 & 8.5’

For soaking bait in SC and LOBX my TICA TC2 work well, also Ocean Masters are OK

For Upper OBX (aka baitN8+) Ocean Master for lower end rods. I personally do not like Ugly Sticks. I feel like they are hard to control the flex on a big cast, I also cannot get the distance out of them that I can other rods. my .02. Find a rod you like and use it. Tsunami makes some nice long rods also but I have not tried to throw them heavy. At least not real heavy or real hard.
