Copperline,

Thanks for the info but out of the six, only VP Kiser is still in business and they are just a saw mill. Anyone else know of anything?

Ugh sorry man, I just searched Bing for that name of plywood in Charleston and those were the first ones to pop up. You might try a little more in depth search online, I’m sure you can find it around here someplace, or at least a place that can order you some.

Why not use Okoume that is bs 1088? That is more readily available.

Sounds like someones building a boat. Take pics.

Hey guys I found the perfect place in Wilmington, NC and they also have the best price on epoxy resin so that makes the drive worth it right there.

SCSuperfly, Your right, It will be a 26’ Carolina Style Express with twin yamaha 200 4-strokes. I will post pictures as the build proceedes.

I built a Sam Devlin design stitch and glue “Cackler” to duck hunt out of years ago. It was an awesome project! Loved it. Too much work to build a big boat. I say it’s too much work but I still do projects like that - aluminum frame for a 3/0 Penn, It’s all worth it in the end. Good luck to you. Holler if you have any questions about epoxy or anything. Take lots of pics.

I’d look into Okoume, it is much lighter. or at least a blend of the two. You could use the Meranti on the bottom and sole for it’s durability and lower price and then lower your weight above the water line with the okoume. What epoxy system are you using? Do not believe any of the ‘no-sanding’ claims. always sand in between coats.

Well I got my supplies, and then got married and before I knew it fishing season was here so the boat building project was delayed. I started building the jig June 1st and started on the boat June 15th. I have over 100 pics of the process but spent most of my time working on the boat instead of sitting on photo bucket. Here are a few pics as of now. I plan to flip it this weekend. I will post a full gallery from start to finish once it is complete next spring. Boat is now a 26’ CC with a bracket and twin suzuki outboards finished off with a hard top, teak sole and covering boards, and all garmin electronics. Hope you like the color combo. Man is it hot out this year, cant wait for fall.

From the pics so far that is STRONG. Fine looking piece of work you got going on there. Keep us posted, I have a feeling this is a project to keep us drooling through the winter.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind comments. The first month went quick doing the wood work and glassing but this last month of fairing, sanding, and painting over and over has been so long. Glad it’s over.

Jeff, heard you guys have had a few good bottom trips. Wish I could have gone but iv just been trying to keep my head down and get to the flipping process. Hope to get out there with you guys soon.

Also here are a few pics of the boat hull and center console design.

-that's about what I would expect from MS Bing.

jk - what designs are you working from? I built a couple of small boats, not sure I am ready for such a big project but still like to dream. Can you point me to a website? Looks like you are doing a heck of a job.

I enjoy working with wood and thought I was fairly good at it…looking at this, I may as well be playing with crayons. That is IMPRESSIVE. I am like the other guy, would love to learn more about the process. After the wood structure, how much glass goes on the exterior?

Falls coming, we’ll get together and do an over nighter.
The boat looks nice. I like the console, it looks it has plenty of room for the electronics. Don’t forget a nice big compas where its easy to see.
How do you plan on flipping it? Fork lift, overhead crane, or is it 5 guys some rope and a few cases of beer?

Jeff

Thanks again for the comments. Its very stressful building it not knowing if its gonna turn out like I want or think it should with the investment of money, time, and sweat it takes. The kind comments are already making me feel better about it. We are going to flip it with a forklift and big straps at the front and back. The straps will go all the way around the boat, lift it off the ground and then be turned over inside the strap cradle by hand by about five guys. The pros say its easier than you would think so well see. I’ll post some pics Saturday night.

To those asking for some more info, i’ll PM you some links and specifics on Friday.

Thanks again.
