New Inshore Fishing Limits?

Word on the street is there are new inshore limits coming.

Trout - down from 10 fish to 5 fish per day. There was talk of a slot, or one trophy fish over 20" per day, but that didn’t happen.

Flounder - from 20 fish to 10 fish per day.

A couple guides I know were pushing for a 5 - 5 limit, but I don’t think that would be entertained.

Anyhow, just sayin’ what I heard. Anyone else hear anything about new limits to come?</font id=“Georgia”></font id=“maroon”></font id=“size3”>

flounder seems good at 10, but 5 trout is bullsht

I think an upper slot cap on trout is reasonable, at least for a little while. And I agree with a smaller bag limit maybe 6 or 8 and a boat limit. . As long as its a reasonable limit. I think we should set limits before the season is closed and they become the next BSB. Flounder I think we could use a bag limit check, but since a lot of is can’t specifically target flounder and its more of a bycatch unless you have one or two flounder holes or your gigging, its hard too tell.

I would like to see a slot for trout. I have caught enough keeper trout to limit out too many times to count. Almost always, at least half of those trout I would have to measure to make sure they were legal. On days that I’m fishing for food, I don’t keep anything less than 14.5" as a 14.125" trout in ice all day will raise the DNR man’s eyebrows. I prefer to avoid that conflict. My point is, if there was a 14"-19" slot with a bag limit of 5 fish, it wouldn’t change my keep drastically. I almost always fish alone so there are no huge hauls coming out of my boat.

I’d like to see the minimum dropped to 12" and a slot imposed. There are TONS of juveniles out there. 5 fish max would be fine with me as well, perhaps allow one over 20"?

I don’t pay much attention to limits seeing as how I try to practice catch and release as much as possible.

What would you do with them since there is no meat on a 12" trout?

With rates so low, now may be the perfect time to refinance or purchase your dream home. If you are thinking about home financing give me a ring!</font id=“blue”>

Hey, what’s that supposed to mean? Man, here I am sitting 2 hours away, minding my own business.

Oh well, at least I am in good company. I have always said I am no real threat to the fish population.

I would use them as chupacabra bait, or perhaps as an air freshener on my Delorean, or heck, I might even get them mounted. What exactly do you think I would do with them???

Having grown up eating all sorts of panfish, small fish taste quite great. There’s as much meat on a small trout as there is on a small catfish.

Matt, all those small fish ate actually a good sign. We had 2 bad winters of trout and shrimp kills. All these small trout mean that they will all be slot and bigger reproducing fish. Capt fritz. I release a lot of my fish but it almost seems as if you look down on people that keep there's.. their isn't a problem with that. Although I don't keep a trout under 15" or over 20". And ill throw back a 17" flounder if he's skinny. But I do enjoy a good picture well as a good dinner. I think new trout slot and maybe bag limits are in order. Hopefully DNR will see this post and take it into account.

I definitely don’t see the large numbers of small trout (or reds, as they are) a bad thing, and I don’t think a slightly lower minimum size will hurt the population much either. I may be wrong, of course.

Bonzo and DF you 2 make me sick

Look, almost everyone here and those that just lurk have been responsible on their own. Didn’t need any regs to toss the fish back last year until things got better. Well, they’ve gotten better and now this crap. Just like c bass if you ask me. It’s coming.

Umm, you gonna eat that?
