Why a slot over 20" ? Trout start spawning at 8" - 12". I catch a “gator” trout and I will want to keep it. Besides Trout aren’t a long lived fish like our spot tail. That “gator” trout probably wouldn’t live another year anyway. drop the size limit to 13". As far as eating I’d take a 13"-14" pan fried whole to a bigger one. Lots of meat on that size. Plenty to pick off the back bone that gets thrown away when filleted.

5 keeper limit is B.S. on trout.

On the Flounder it wouldn’t matter if it was 5 to me because 6 is the most I’ve ever caught on one trip. But talk to someone that gigs and you’ll hear a different story. I seldom target flounder so no need for me to make guesses.

I think Spot tail needs to be bumped up to 5 per person and slot raised to 26".

We all have our own opinions.

I pay lot’s of attention to limits as I keep and eat what is legal to do so. I do love some fresh fish! I love even more the look on Mom and Dad’s face when I bring them a couple of freshly cleaned Trout.

Limits for recreational fishermen are ludicrous!!!Hype!! Do not trout and flounder migrate??do not net them anywhere here n.c. georgia fla…No one needs to keep or kill more than 10!! why not have a 10 fish limit per person and make it mandatory to keep the first 10 you catch???(10 trout,10 flounder and 6 reds)!!FORGET SLOTS!!!IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO RELEASE A FISH THAT IS NOT LIKELY TO SURVIVE A FOWL HOOK SO THAT YOU CAN KEEP ONE BASED ON SIZE.Guides should be regulated(licensed) and qualified to determine if a fish should be returned based on survivability. And they shouls be allowed to keep one trophy fish per person(if they want to mount it!)

Education , responsibility and good sportsmanship SHOULD GUIDE YOU!Smaller fish are better to eat!!Ask the porpoises (which are abundant in bulls bay area)if they would leave some for us…KEEP WHAT YOU WILL EAT FRESH(DONT FILL THE FREEZER!!)

Regulations should be enforced by license suspensions only!!!Not bullying and threatening to take your stuff! Fishing without a license should be harshly penalized…Break the rules and lose your license…Fish with a suspended license and then and only then should severe penalties be imposed. I have always followed the limits and never been checked!!Fishing 10 years in cape romain!! REGULATIONS REQUIRING ME TO CATCH 15 REDS TO KEEP ONE ARE DUMB!!!COUNTERPRODUCTIVE!!MAKES ME SICK TO RELEASE A 14 INCH RED THAT IS BLEADING AND WILL DIE TO KEEP ONE 15 INCHES!!!TJIS IS COUNTER CONSERVATION AND ANYONE WHO CANT SEE THIS IS EITHER HARDHEADED OR IN DENIAL…

What would you do with them since there is no meat on a 12" trout?

With rates so low, now may be the perfect time to refinance or purchase your dream home. If you are thinking about home financing give me a ring!</font id=“blue”>

NO MEAT?? SCALE EM CUT THEIR HEADS OFF,GUT EM FRY EM UP PLENTY OF MEAT!!AND EXCELLENT FLAVOR!!!
Common sense and experience tells me there is more meat on one 12 incher than filets from two 15 inchers, and picking the meat from around the bones makes them"finger lickin good"

Reality is better than opinions.common sense is based on reality combined with experience…opinions are ego based.WE ALL WANT A GOOD FISHERY TO ENJOY…NOT A BUNCHED OF FORCED FOOLISH LAWS!!BE A CONSERVATIONIST WITH COMMON SENSE…KEEPING MORE THAN YOU CAN EAT IS THE SAME AS KILLING MORE THAN YOU CAN EAT FOR HUNTERS…

I would use them as chupacabra bait, or perhaps as an air freshener on my Delorean, or heck, I might even get them mounted.</font id=“red”> What exactly do you think I would do with them???

Having grown up eating all sorts of panfish, small fish taste quite great. There’s as much meat on a small trout as there is on a small catfish.

While I disagree with your logic, I love your sarcasm!

Funny, last year we couldn’t save them fast enough, this year we can’t kill 'em fast enough.

I hope this is another mild winter.

I also hope no trout read the internet.

You sound like my kinda fishing partner Vinman.

LSK, what street are you hearing that on?? I dont have a problem with lowering the limit on flounder to 10. But for trout I think they are off base. The weather affects them more than fishermen. What’s next tell mother nature the temp cant get below 45?

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

What does common sense and experience tell you about the amount of meat on one 15 incher vs fillets from two 12 inchers?

Or is the meat from around the bones on a legal sized trout not considered “finger lickin good”?

I don’t know. I release them.

But if I catch a skinny 14 " flounder, (**() straight he is going in the box.

I think to most people it’s just personal preference, my wife would prefer the fillets off the 15", I would prefer the 12" pan fried whole(- head and guts). I would also prefer the trout over the flounder. And then you have people that love to snag em, de-hook, throw back in the water and repeat over and over and over. If I get my limit I just quit fishing and ride the river.

Those who think that trout populations are more affected by the weather than fishing pressure clearly didn’t experience how good the fishing was years ago. You can still catch a bunch of trout now, but it’s not nearly as easy as it used to be. Certain places that used to be loaded with trout have not been for the last 10-15 years.

You obviously haven't watched them on the flats during the coldest parts of the COLD winters we had 2 and 3 years ago. I've fished for trout the past 20 years and just started monitoring their numbers on the flats in the last 6. 4 winters ago in these waters, you would see schools of several hundred on each flat when the water dipped below 50 degrees. After Jan. 2010, there were very few. I hope to see them back this winter as the numbers, although fairly small in size, are back up to slightly below average per what the catch rate has been this summer/fall. I'm not saying fishing pressure is not an issue, but the cold is definitely a larger factor around here (Edisto). Predators such as cormorants and dolphins have their way when the water temps. stay below 45 for sustained periods.

I didn’t say that they are not affected by cold. I’ve fished plenty the last few winters and have seen the same things. The fact is that populations are also clearly affected by human factors, whether it’s fishing pressure or environmental/water quality/ecological considerations, and that’s pretty obvious. The last time I fished Edisto was 2008, and the trout fishing was pretty stupid easy. Even when the trout fishing w

I love it when people talk about how good the fishing was 20 years ago. Well 5/6 years ago the trout fishing was (**() good. We had a 150 fish morning…not a day, but a morning. They are certainly cyclical. A 5 fish limit wouldn’t bother me as trout don’t freeze worth a crap. Catch some for a fresh dinner, but don’t try and load the freezer for the winter. It’s all common sense but there are to many jack offs that have any. It’s why you can only keep one grey trout right now.
