New Mt.P public pier on Shem Creek

Is anyone having any success on the new pier on Shem Creek and if so,what tide? My family and I walked it after a meal in Mt.P last week and thought it might be fun to fish.Kind of crowded with tourist though.

I think before its all said and done I will try for some sheeps over there

Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

They are catching sheepshead, redfish, trout, and flounder off of it lately.

Its located on coleman blvd at the lights just before the bridge over Shem creek (on your right if going towards Sullivan;s island). On the opposite side of the creek to Reds.

I’ve fished there on a low tide during late winter and caught nowt. I have seen someone hook some big rays and probably reds in early spring towards high tide and get broken off!

Tight lines

I’ll attempt to catch anything with fins!
Now, where did you say you saw that mermaid …

thx. That’s a heck of a walk. Is all the pier ther ein the image ‘open to the public’ including the end with the gazebo over it?

It’s all open to the public (except one small cross-section waaaaay before you get to the gazebo)and it is hit or miss some days with that pier.

Saturday I didn’t catch anything but small reds. Sunday, however, was a different story. 8 Reds (1 23.5 inches, the others were 28 to 31) and a 17 inch trout (Yes, I have pictures and a lot of witnesses LOL). It’s a good, safe place to take your kids fishing and it is quite a hike to the gazebo (and back if you have to go to the bathroom!) There have been some really big trout caught on the right side by the mouth of the creek and big reds on the other side. You have to watch out for the Paddleboarders though because they will run straight into your line even if it is very close to the pier. There is plenty of bait so bring your cast net. I have met a lot of really great fellow anglers out there.

Also, the water by where the taxi parks between the bridge and the floating island have given me several flounder, including one that was 21 inches.

DHR is also out there a lot, but that is a very good thing because I have seen several people try to sneak off with fish that were not in the slot.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the good info…would love to see some pictures to make me even more jealous.

Not the best pic but I was shocked and whooped after fighting this 31". I caught all of my reds with a Stradic CI4 on a TFO rod. There are more pics with the other fish but I don’t want to hijack the OP’s post.

I also forgot to add that all of my big reds were caught on live mullet about 3 to 4 inches long w/a 1/0 hook. My husband also caught one 26" on fresh cut mullet. He also reminded me that we did catch two in the slot reds (19") on Saturday. Yeah, I’m still tired!

Nice. Might have to take the little bro out there along with DI pier.

Between the paddleboarders, kayakers, and hundreds of boats navigating shem creek, a fishing pier in the middle of it was a brilliant idea. It’s a shame how Shem Creek looks today compared to years past.

“I have tomorrow open!”

If the pier is relatively new, how does it have sheepshead? Any siize to them?

Apparently the Sheepshead there are all very small, from what I’ve seen and heard at least. I went over there and talked to some people today.
