“…be a man and PM me.”
Not sure how I feel about this. Trying to decide if I think the team found its stride in the 2nd half. Or did the OC find his stride. I like some of the play calling, some I hated. But it seemed like the OC finally learned and changed tactics, which worked.
I’m with you. There were definitely some good offensive adjustments made at halftime. USC scored the third most points that Michigan gave up all year. Michigan’s defense was the #1 passing defense and #3 overall (I believe) so for USC to do that is definitely a feather in the OC’s hat.
I didn’t expect any wholesale changes to the offensive game plan this late in the season and right before the bowl game so to see some of the same play calls didn’t surprise me.
Personally, I believe USC has good talent and depth at WR and RB. My question mark is whether Bentley can get a handle on his accuracy issues. He has the mental acumen and physical tools but for some reason, his accuracy is his weak link. That and he does make some questionable decisions (throwing the ball into double and triple coverage or holding on to the ball too long) with the ball at times but I think maturity/experience will take care of most of that.

I agree with all of that. With Jorner coming in it will put Bentley…or he will get out of the way
I’m not sold on Joyner, especially to come in and push Bentley right off the bat. Self-admitted, he’s not a strong passer. Also, he’s been working with Perry Orth (QB1Athletics) and even Orth said he has a lot of room for improvement in his passing skills. Is that something you want in a QB? Most scouting sites have him listed as an “athlete” for position. Again, not necessarily something I want in my QB. At 6’1" - 6’ 2" (depending on the scouting service) and just over 200 lbs, he has a decent frame for a college QB (maybe a little short). He’s a “4 star” recruit, Rivals ranked him as the #3 overall player in SC, #10 (nationally) “dual threat” QB’s and #187 overall player in Rival’s “Top 250” nationally ranked players. My problem with those types of “rankings” is the fact they earned said rankings playing against high school players, not high-level college players…the people they’ll be facing on the field. It’s a roll of the dice. Hopefully for USC, the kid pans out AND Bentley learns how to hit his targets. Time will tell.

I like the fact that a new QB coach was brought in. He has a great background and I think Bentley is missing something besides a better O line. As for McClendon, he is a great recruiter and has a really good rapport with the kids. I liked the little bit I saw in the bowl game. Anyone that expected a huge difference doesn’t understand coaching. So, I’m okay with the decision but will expect more next year.
