What do you guys think about these? I don’t think they are out yet. I have a Battle reel and like it These look like they are lighter and have more drag, but less line capacity. Lets discuss.
The new Conflict will start shipping late September/October. These reels are roughly 10-15% lighter than a Battle, they get about 20% more drag than a Battle because they use the versa-drag system where the HT-100 carbon drag washers are keyed and locked into the spool allowing both sides of the drag washers to be used. Lastly the Conflict uses sealed ball bearings where Battle uses shielded bearings. Retail will range from $130-$160.

Just by comparing the 2000 size…
A little less lien capacity; probably b/c of the graphite spool used has to be made thicker
7+1 bearings instead of 6+1
A smidgen ligher
10# drag vs 7#
Aleady contemplating getting one to replace a Battle 2000 based on drag alone. The Battle 2000 gets overwhelmed on being to apply ample pressure on an overslot red. The rod I have is very light and the 2000 balances well, but does not have the drag to match the backbone of the rod.

The 1000, 2000, 2500, 3000, and 4000 all use a new reinforced high strength graphite rotor with an all metal body and the 5000-8000 use an all metal body and rotor. All spools are machined aluminum.

I’ve been fishing the 2500 and 3000 for a year now with no issues. If you like the drag on the battle you will really like the Conflicts.

I really like my Battles, but the 10-15% lighter plus better drag prolly won’t sway me away from my 2000…now on the larger reels that could make a big difference…

And just who is going to pay my light bill in September, can you answer that? Cause I won’t be able to now!

How will the battle/conflict 7000 - 8000 series match up? I am about to pull the trigger on the battle, is it worth the wait?
The Conflict will not have a 7000 in the lineup but will have a 5000, 6000, and 8000 for the larger sizes. From a Battle/Conflict 8000 comparison you basically get one more bearing (All sealed), 5lbs more drag, 3 more inches on line retrieve, and a lighter reel. The Conflict also has an EVA (Some call it foam) handle knob, machined out aluminum handle arm, and line capacity rings on the spool. With that said what you can do with one you can do with the other but if you are going to be holding the reel all day while fishing like jigging/bottom fishing I would go with the Conflict but if you are just going to be fishing dead bait in the rod holder or just playing around with reds/sharks at the Jetty the Battle will do just fine. Also if your reel is going to be getting sprayed a lot with saltwater the Conflict would be a better choice because of the sealed bearings. Here is an image of the 8000.

I can’t wait till these hit the shelf. I’d like to see one side by side with a battle. I have been really happy with my Battle 8000. May pick up a couple 3000’s.

I really like my Battles. My only complaint is that cosmetically, they don’t seem to hold up as well as Shimanos and an Okuma I have. It is just little things, a bail bracket, etc… but, it bugs me. It won’t keep me from buying another Penn and maybe I’ll splurge for the new conflict when I am ready for a new reel but I hope they continue working on corrosion/cosmetic issues.

What size would you recommend for inshore- reds in the marsh, trout and flounder off a dock etc., the 2500, 3000, or 4000?
For slot reds and all othesr mentioned above a 2500 or 3000 on 4-10, 6-12, or 8-15lb rod would be ideal.

It looks like Penn has changed the sizes on the 3000 series. The 2500 looks to be similar in size to the older 3000’s.
Chris
Yep, I see that. The 2500 is comparible to the Battle 3000. When matching up a rod for the 2500 I’m looking at a 6-12 and 8-15 line rating. Do I want medium light, medium, or medium heavy or does that part make a difference.
The line capacity of the 2500 is similar to the 3000 but has a smaller body and lighter. Jdem there are a lot of good rods out there to choose from but I would look at either the Legion or Regiment line of PENN rods when shopping for a new rod. .

A CFT2500 would balance very well with a Legion and Regiment 6-12 or 8-15 rod both are extra fast action. If you are going to be mainly fishing artificials the 6-12 is my favorite because it has a nice soft tip but plenty of backbone.
