This is the best reel I have seen Penn put out in a long time. Thanks to someone generous at Penn I was able to get my hands on this reel a few months ago and I love it. The reel matches and exceeds the expectations that I’ve had with my shimano reels. The light weight design has been easy on my torn rotator cuff and the drag is incredibly smooth with plenty of power to pull big reds out from under docks or out of the grass. I havent been able to fish several days a week lately like I used to but once I am healed up nice I will be buying a few more of these reels as Penn has won back some of my business with this one reel. I will be sending a review of the reel to penn today or tomorrow and I can tell you that I have yet to find anything major to complain about but I have found lots of good things that I like in this reel. Good work by the guys at Penn. This reel blows the battle out of the water ( i am not a fan of the battle) and if you like the battle the conflict should make you soil your shorts. I give this reel two thumbs up and have no worries about recommending it to anyone:smiley:
Glad to hear you are enjoying the CFT2500 CaptDan. Thanks for the report.

they have the same ht 100 on the spool but you said they have different drag washers?

It looks like that already have the diagrams up, just not linked in their site yet, just click the links.

StumpNocker the drag material (HT-100) is the same between the Conflict and Battle but the Conflict has keyed HT-100 drag washers that lock into the spool allowing both sides of the HT-100 drag washer to be used. By doing this you you can achieve greater max drag. We do this on the new SSV’s and our Torque spinning reels. I will post two images so you can see the difference in drag washers.

gotcha, thanks!

Here are the images of the Conflict and Battle HT-100 washers. I have circled the washer ear in red and I have also circled the notch in the spool where the ear locks into place. I have also posted the Battle spool and washers so you can see that they are round and not keyed.

Well done thanks!

Will they handle light braid with light lures (unlike the Battle) per wind knots?
The line lay is much improved on the Conflict so they are light braid/lure friendly.

Wow. Cool looking piece of equipment. Getting kind of pricey although I’m sure it’s worth it.
Most of my rods and reels are Penn. I have 4 Penn Battles (3000 & 4000) that I use for inshore. I like them but they are very high maintenance. I love the idea of sealed bearings. The bearings on one of my Battle 4000’s are shot after 2 seasons. And I take care of them and use Penn reel cleaner, Penn oil and grease. Will these reels replace the Battle or are they simply a new option? Any other new reels on the horizon?
If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.
No the Conflict will not replace the Battle. Have you had your Battle repaired yet? If not PM me.

Thanks for the info. I will check them out upon their release.
Dude…you have an awesome job!..oh yea and do these have the same paint as the battles? One little knick seems to spread like crazy with oxidation and chipping even with real good rinsing and washing…other then that I havent had line lay issues or wind knot probs
“you win some, you lose some…but nothing beats getting some!”
As for paint yes and no. The Conflict uses the new improved paint/process that was implemented in 2012. We do realize that we had paint adhesion issues with the Battle last year and we have replaced all reels with issue under warranty. You should not see these issues again on the Fierce, battle, and Conflict. As for line lay we have changed the spool dimensions which improve the line lay and line management greatly.

Was looking at the new Squadron Inshore Rods. If I paired one of these with a Battle 3000 am I going too cheap with the rod. How much am I losing versus the higher priced Penn rods.
I would say it all depends on what you are looking for out of a rod. The Squadron is a very nice rod for the $ but does not have Fuji components and the blank is composite (Blend of Graphite and glass) so it will be slightly heavier than and not as sensitive as a 100% graphite rod but it will be a little stronger. IMO I do not think you are being too cheap but I recommend putting your BTL3000 on the desired Squadron rod and then put it on your next choice like an Allegiance or Legion to see which one feels the best. A 6-12 or 8-15 would match the best with your BTL3000. Hope that helps.

where can i get a conflict from? I want a lot out of one reel. I hope to do some offshore bottom fishing and inshore bait fishing with it. what would be the best size?
