Finally, I’m giving shrimping a try for the first time this year. I moved to Columbia 2 years ago for a job after doing 9 years in the Navy. I finally made it down to Edisto for a Father/son camping trip this past July to scout the area and we loved it. I’m going to be hammock camping at Edisto State Park opening weekend. I don’t have a boat and was trying to find some places to shrimp from shore/dock. Anyone have a suggestion? Or know where to find a cheap rental john boat? Or does anyone need a driver/thrower for their boat? I have my shrimp baiting license already.
Thanks and I hope the weather is good for us and we all max out!
Hooking up with someone with a boat would be your best bet. I can only think of a couple places you would even have a chance off the hill and you would be on private property to get there. You can’t bait on public dock - you would have to have permission on a private dock. All of the places I know you have to have a boat and is a pretty fair ride out. It is a great sport and good times to be had. Wish you luck. Hopefully you can get up with someone wanting to share expenses. Going with someone seasoned will for sure up your success.
Thanks JFord. Glad I posted then, wasn’t sure about the public docks. I’m going to give the marina a call and see if they have any advice. If I can’t find any other options, I’ll just throw a net from the docks and do some fishing.
give me a call 803 682 3829 can use an extra guy on the boat I pull a net and have done the bait shrimping thing for years just can’t do both due to regulations this year I am thinking bait since I do not sell and
pulling a net is a lot of work and I like the baiting and throwing the net anyway I usually cooler out and that’s what its all abount
That’s great news Scott. I read some of your older posts, you sound seasoned for sure. I’ll give you a call on my way into town. I was going to stop at the True Value and get 5lb bag of bait binder, 5 gal buckets and a drop basket. Do you have polls? I haven’t got those yet, was trying to see how this forum research went before making the investment.
I got poles I got bait and clay never saw the need for the bait binder I just use fish meal and clay What I need is a bait licence plan on getting one Tue. when I am in Columbia not sure If I will get a drag lic.
