Nothing lol. Surf needs to warm up 20 degrees

I’ve caught whiting and small black sea bass and black drum, a few January’s ago at the rocks at breach inlet. They had no fight at all and often you wouldn’t feel the bite but just reel them in. It wasn’t after a cold front like we just had though. I’ve heard of people catching dog sharks in January at the folly pier but it is hit or miss since they swim in a school and its all depends on a school coming by. You won’t catch any sharks but you might catch something. But I would plan on it being extremely slow.

Enjoy getting out with your new gear even if the fishing is s l o w.

Het Stevo, let me know how that Berkley cart works out. Been thinking about getting one for the wife. So that, she’ll leave mine alone for beach trips.

Be careful of targeting dog sharks off folly pier. They fall under the shark ban there.

Hey Indy, waves, :sunglasses:

Your wife must love you more than mine:smiley: Still waiting on my Christmas present in the mail. The legendary old ocean master 12ft surf rod has been brought back by popular demand by Bass Pro after years of being discontinued. Heavy rod that is rated for 12 ounces around 200. Been on back order for a couple of months and is now available and should get here any day. I’ll post a pick when it arrives. Supposed to be a beast of a rod and excellent for casting for sharks. Regarding the surf. It’s a good time of the year to do some scouting, get your reels serviced at Haddrels and do some re-grouping. Spring can’t come soon enough. Take care Stevo.

Good morning Izzy:smiley:

Good Morning to you, as well.
I’ve got one of those 12’oceanmaster rod. Yes, it’s a beast of a rod.

And Stevo, I’ve got Barbies all over the house, too.

Yes sir I hope the new one lives up to the reputation the old one developed. I have scoured the internet for a couple of years looking for a good shark rod and the same thing keeps coming up from shark fisherman, got to get the Ocean Master. I don’t shark fish allot but enjoy a blacktip every now and then. Hopefully I get a chance to test her out this year.

That’s some good stuff! My wife got me a pair of Big sand Wheels! She is a keeper…for thirty more years.:stuck_out_tongue:

My wife got me a new combo. She just doesn’t know it yet.

Mt pleasant pier it is tommorow. Going to go after sheeps and trout. I will probably hit up folly beach tue wed thu fri of next week. I will post the reports.

As far as the 12ft ocean master i have a lightly used old model that i take out with me. I caught that 8ft sandbar last year on it. I have thrown 18oz of weight and a half of whiting with that rod in heavy surf.

Izzy i will let you know how well the cart does. What i like about it is it folds up so it can fit in my car the other ones cant. And im sure you will tell ypur wife the combo cost way less than you bought it for too haha.

Dparker i want those wheels next. Let me know how much easier it makes it in loose sand over your old rubber wheels.

Thanks for all the replies reports coming soon!

I can vouch for balloon tires. Paired with the reels on wheels Sr. cart made in NC they are rated to haul 200 pounds and have no problem doing it. You can carry a huge load with one finger on hard sand down the beach. On thick sand it takes a little more effort, but it’s so much easier pulling than the standard black tires. Night and day difference. They are not cheep particularly the wheeeleeze brand. Made with excellent quality components and will last a very long time. Very durable ties. I have had a pair for 3-4 years and not a speck of rust and smooth as the day I got them. They will make your cart float with poles coolers and all loaded in it. Good for bar hopping or wading through the wash if you get cut off from one point of beach to the next at high tide. They also sport a very wide base that is almost impossible to flip the cart over and you can fish a couple rods straight out of the cart with no worries. Transporting the big cart and balloon tires you need allot of space. The cart has to be turned sideways to get through a standard size door it is so wide. Once you get it out on the beach the set up is phenomenal. If you look around you can find a less expensive set up with the orange poly tires that already come with the cart. I think called fish mate. I can’t speak on the quality of those but I think they are a good alternative considering they run allot cheeper.

Yes, that’s what I like about the Berkley cart, it’s foldable feature.
Good luck fishing today.
