There are a few variables when considering buying a gun. What species of fish do you plan on targeting? I’d get at least a 48" AB Biller or a Sea Hornet gun, preferably something around 52-54" if you plan on targeting big grouper. I personally use a Biller 48" and have shot grouper up to 25 lbs with no problem. I prefer the wood guns over the aluminum guns, just my preferance. I’m not a great fan of JBL guns, they work just don’t like them as well as the other two brands I named. I would suggest going out with some people first and maybe try shooting some different guns to see what you prefer before laying down a bunch of cash for a gun you might not like.

If you want good info on this topic go to charlestondiving.com. There is a discussion about this subject on one of the forums going on there. I agree with cdt2316. I have a 52" AB Biller and do a great deal of spearfishing in the Beaufort area. It is an excellent gun, but I recommend going spearfishing with someone experienced in the area before making a final decision
I have a Spearfishing specialties gun for sale. Only been in the water 3 times.
