new to spearfishing

I am a certified diver of the last 15 years, I have been diving all over the world but recently decided to take up spearfishing. I love fishing and diving so why not combine the two.

My questions is; what speargun should I get as a beginner? I don’t want to spend a fortune, maybe $l50 max.

I would start off with something like a 48" AB Biller or JBL, don’t even mess with the dinky smaller guns because as soon as you start hunting you are gonna wish you had gone ahead and gotten a bigger gun for the extra range and the option to handle bigger fish. If you are only wanting to spend $150 you will have to probably buy used though. I sold a 48" Biller about 2 months ago for $100, that would’ve been a great starter gun.

How deep will you be spearfishing?

Bottom fishing or pelagics? Inshore flounder/sheepshead/spadefish, or offshore grouper/hogs/cobia/pompano…etc…

Need more info. One gun will do it all, but it’s not optimal. The one gun that will do it all will cost you more than $150.00.
