New to surf fishing

Just got set up for surf fishing and was wondering if anyone could lead me as to where to go to fish and what baits and techniques? Also has anyone been catching any rays or sharks yet?

redfisher25, most all S.C. beaches are great for surfishing. Kind of hard to be specific on where, but I can try. Folly…I tend to stay well north(east) of the pier. 6th-13th ave. east has always been productive for me. Go at low tide and scout it out. I stay away from the piers in fear of the Summer Pilgrams. Also if you see any REAL surfers, fish north of them and find the trough creating there sets. The REAL surfers will not be surfing were you want to fish. Deeper water=0 waves. Isle of Palms… There are many good spots on IOP that offer good troughs and ditches. From 24th- 34th ave. is a good area. Fresh shrimp, small hooks, tight lines. As far as sharks and rays, I don’t try to catch them, but I do catch many rays this time of year. I will be hittin’ it hard this weekend, will post reports.

“If it were catching, Everyone would be good at it.”
