Good luck - welcome to the low country

thanks to the both of ya and i look foward to getting out and doing some fishing. Hope to make my brother smile with the cobia. Any other tips for some offshore action would be helpfull as well. thank again
I moved here 3 years ago and one of the absolute coolest thing about charleston is the seminars that the local tackle shops put on. You go from complete novice to pretty well informed in about an hour. The amazingness of these classes for an angler new to the area cannot be overstated.
Oh come on man, why dont you do a little research first? You want someone to hold your hand? Do a search.
Sorry, everyone expects everything for free. Want to learn how to catch cobia? Why dont you hire a charter instead begging for fishing secrets…

Good advice - go see the tackle shop.
Better advice - ignore the people on this site who apparently were born knowing how to catch a cobia.

Didn’t sound like he was begging at all. And he wasn’t asking for specific spots or anything like that. He said he’s new to the area, and he wants to put his brother on some fish. If people are willing to help him, why should that bother you?..

I continue to be amazed at the attitude of some folks on this board. This is the only discussion board I visit where I see it.
Normally fishermen are some of the most helpful and informative lot.
sorry if i started a crap storm here. Thank you for the advise and the warm welcome.
Another little helpful hint is to get the numbers for the artificial reefs off the SCDNR website. The next couple months will be a good time to get into the spades and cobia out there. The numbers will get you to the reef, but you’ll have to putt around a little to find where they’re hanging out. Where you see spades…the cobia are close by. Good luck and welcome.

Dang, dude did not ask for any secret spots or anything. Just some general information. There are some here on CF that will give you the shirt off their back and give you a helping hand and…there are some that want you to figure it out yourself. I am an inshore guy and don’t live in Charleston. I know the best way to get good at fishing is to do it as much as you can. Some of you guys don’t seem to understand that not everyone has instant access to the water so fishing every day/week, etc, is not an option. For those of us that have limited opportunities to get down there and fish, we hope to make the trip as good one by catching a few fish. Personally, I am just happy to be on the water but, my kids have a bit more fun if they can catch something. Not whining, I just don’t see where the guy did anything so egregious.
If you don’t want to help a guy out, why respond at all? Just ignore him. Maybe someone nice will come along and offer some advice. We weren’t all born knowing how to fish.

quote:Amen to that DF...that's probably the same guy who idled pass me, 50 yards away, when I was broke down in sight of the landing last summer (cowl off). Then just took off without even asking. Ended up waiting 3 hours for SeaTow (they were tied up with a sailboat). Some people just ain't nice!

This page has helped me out tremendously with information. Do not let the few ruin it for you. Hadrells is a great place to start and look for buddy boat opportunities to get out with people who know where to go and what to use. Welcome to town!

Thanks guys for the help/advise I will be stopping in there this week sometime and we will be going sunday and monday then who knows but anyone else going out let me know i will keep the radio on. Dolphin bite is strong right now may need to hook a few.
It seems like a lot of the people with that attitude have been weeded out over the last year or so. I read a lot of fishing forums and your right cape, this is the only board where I ever see anyone acting like that. He’s probably the guy trolling the reports pages ready to throw “nice report” at the guy that accidentally posted something in the wrong spot.
If your going to be a prick why even post anything? The guy asked a question and you blasted him. Instead of growing this community comments like yours run new members off or keep them from contributing and posting reports down the road when they do get things figured out.
