Hello,
I am new to the area, just relocated here from Alaska after spending a year or so in Louisiana working. My family and I love to fish and we spend a lot of time on the Cooper River up in Moncks Corner. We mainly fished the salt water in Louisiana and really enjoyed that. I have everything I need including a 2015 22’ Sea Hunt to fish the salt water here. I am not asking anyone for any of their secret spots but any friendly advise would be good or if someone was willing to let me follow them for a day that would be great too.
Thanks for everyone’s time and this is really a great site!
Well, if Bonzo has already embraced you and extended a scouting invitation, you don’t need any additional assistance.
Seriously though, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. It will be pretty obvious who’s a notable source and who’s their own biggest fan.
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. There are a lot of “tried and true” techniques and approaches discussed on here but don’t be afraid to experiment. You might just stumble on to something not too many have figured out…yet.
oh yea, AKnSC, one thing, this is the REPORTS page…some people will chime on you for not actually posting a report, even though you’re asking for areas to catch fish so you can post a report…23Sailfish will be along any minute to do just this…
Well I’m gonna give you a SERIOUS run down of some of the unspokens around here.
Some mandatory c.f. laws
First its hadrals over everything. I think they invented white braid or atleast they invented using it. You will need a pfg, a buff and a yeti or at least a knock off yeti or you will not catch a single fish. Rule 1 of the yeti is never put a fish in the yeti. You just don’t do it. Rule 1 of the yeti tumbler is put ice in it to keep your beer ice cold, crushed ice is most popular. Trust me its a yeti thang. Most of all never ever post a pic of a big red, and when you catch 1 over 40 don’t tell anyone about it unless you really want someone to get butthurt. I don’t know why this is but it is how it is around here. As for fishing no one on here really fishes we just talk about it.
Yeti used in a sentence. He bought a yeti, yeti can’t fish.
What Pfg stands for. Perfect For Googans
What Buff stands for. Butt Ugly Fishing Face

and there ya go AKnSC! gotta have thick skin around here!
Welcome to the sight!
Hey 40… if I gave you a yeti (I won’t but just suppose ) would you keep it? If someone gave me one, I’d be mighty happy. They are some nice coolers. Post up the pics, Honestly I’ve never landed a red over 40" 38" while fishing the Lawrence is my personal best. Be honest how many spot tail have you caught that were over 40"? and do you actively target them?
Welcome to the site! My professional advice is to learn the area, look at some charts, and be mindful of all the sand bars in the area. Charleston’s fishery is not as epic as Louisiana, but it’s beautiful out here and there are plenty of fish to go around. If you have any questions or want a tour of the area, just shoot me a PM.
I’ve caught 3 confirmed over 50, 1 was fat and between 57 and 63 inches tl not accurate measurement but over 57, it is my biggest red and i caught it 10 plus years ago. I lost the picture but it was from headlight to headlight on my old explorer sport. (my phone was in my car close by and it was a great photo to show the size, it was released and was full of life. 100% survived) and I’ve caught a lot over 40. I used to target them but I moved on to fishing for big sharks when I fish for big fish. It is the the biggest of big game fishing inshore or from the beach. If you fish for a big red catching 1 from 30 to 60 is all luck of the draw if you get a monster or just a big red.

Guys
Thanks for all the info! I have a yeti mug and cooler so I guess I am ready to go.
I was more looking for general areas and not limited to the Cooper River. I don’t mind traveling with the boat to new landings and areas. I was pretty fortunate to have good red and speck teachers in Louisiana. It was a heck of an adjustment from rainbow and salmon fishing in Alaska, but we were able to do it.
Bonzo hopefully will hook me up and I hope to be able to meet you guys one day on the water.
