We’ve been to Edisto once for a long weekend. Now we’re bringing the boat and we’ll be there 5/9 to 5/16. We have a slip reserved at Edisto Marina.
I’ve got a few general boating/fishing-related questions:
- We’re trailering from Atlanta. I’ll be coming off I-95 onto 17 then 174. Any suggestions for a competitively priced gas-stop between 95 and Edisto to top off the boat? I’ll be needing over 100 gals - ouch!
- Where do you guys get ice for the fish boxes (we usually get 60 to 100 lbs or so)? Is there something reasonable near the marina or is that our only choice?
- Is there a place you use for frozen chum blocks, squid, miscellaneous hooks, stuff like that?
We’re looking forward to our visit. BTW, please save some fish for us will ya?
Thanks for the reply, Edisto82! We’ll be coming up I-95 from I-16. I was thinkng getting off onto 17, but would it be better(easier) trailering from 95 to the Island if we stay on 95N longer and go through Walterboro?
Is the liquor store located in the same general area as the grocery store? What about EdistoWatersports?
Thanks.

Your best bet for gas and mileage is stick to your original plan and travel I-95 to Hwy 17 to Hwy. 174. If you see gas under $3.50 stop and get it. The ice machine is just before the Piggly Wiggly on the right. Watersports is next to Dockside Restaurant and Edisto Seafood across from the entrance to Wyndam “Fairfield” Resorts.

Great Edistobrad! Yep, I remember those places from our previous visit. BTW, we’re staying at the Wyndam/Fairfield during our stay.
If anybody happens to see our 22 GW Walk “Reel’y Hours” around the marina, please stop by and say hi. Bet I can find another beer (or two) in the cooler!!
Next I’m coming back to you guys for some fishing suggestions. Of course, GPS coordinates are ALWAYS appreciated!

Sidenote: That ice machine is a 24 hour automated machine, so you can get ice any time. I think it’s the best deal for ice on the island.
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
That is a good week to come. Thats Gov. cup tourny weekend.
Your best bet is to stick with your original plan and stop to top off on gas in Jacksonboro. It’s the last stop on 17 before you get to Edisto, about 25 miles from the beach. There is a big station there on your left, so no problem getting in and out with your trailered boat. Gas is about as reasonable as anywhere else.
Depending on what you are fishing for, will help guide you in the right direction. Sound like you may want to hit the Edisto 60’. You can find coordinates online or certainly www.dnr.state.sc.us.
If I’m not mistaken you are down during the governors cup or the latter part of it anyway. The marina will be extremely busy, slammed for that matter. I’ll be down that weekend and will look for your boat to grab a cb.
Regards!
Thanks VERY much for the fill-up advice! Yep, please come on by - we’ll have a “cb” on hand for sure! We look forward to meeting some of you next week!
