Hey guys wanted your insights. I much prefer to fish at night, I find it much more productive and relaxing. Yet every time I drive by Folly Beach at night no one is fishing which I find odd since everybody and there brother is out during the day. I checked DNR regulations and Folly Beach City regulations and I cant find anything that says you cant park or fish at night. Am I missing something? Are vehicle break ins a problem? Is it not common in this area to night fish? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I have shark fished the N folly Beach and Sullivan’s at night as well. Allways saw other fisherman out on Sullivan’s at night but not North folly. I have never had any problems at either one. Iwould fish more at night but I find it sketchy fishing by myself at night.
Forgot to mention the bugs on N folly really come out at night. They are also out heavy in the early mornings too. I allways carry a can of bugspray now
Folly beach is supposed to have a beach curfew of 11 pm from what i was told back n the day but that might of been just for minors. The lighthouse preserve area down the cement road has a curfew at dark, its on the side but if you stay on the beach and use the beach front to access it i was told it is ok to. I have never had a problem fishing at any beach at night, but have bumped into some sketchy people. I wouldnt recommend fishing by yourself in general in a remote location or situation like at night. I hurt my shin fishing by myself once and had to wait like 3 hours before i could troop it down the beach with my gear because it hurt so bad. Thats a long time to think about fishing solo and 1/4 mile is a long ways if your hurt or something. Yes i still fish solo. Bugs are worst at dusk and dawn or if you cut a light on the brighter the more bugs.
Allot of old salts say nighttime is the best time to go for big bass. Bugs will thin out after it cools a little. Carry a head lamp and a back up light. Take a “scout trip” during the day to get familiar with the area you plan to fish. Take things a little slower and be a little more careful cutting bait etc. Don’t be climbing rocks and stuff. Like 40 said don’t head out to far, just in case some issue were to arise. 40 trains MMA with the kite boarders, so he is well prepared to handle thugs. One time I saw him choke out a soccer mom on Sullivans simply because she would not stop doing yoga in his spread. Don’t set drags to tight. Its a little harder to watch poles and one can disappear. I have also heard not to shine lights, head lamps into the water. When rigging etc you want light to be facing the dunes. I have heard allot of folks say lights can spook the fish when shined into the water. Killer time to fish and allot of fun. Less people get out and you should have your pick of the premium spots. Good luck.
Thanks for all the advice guys, its much appreciated.
Sketchy people on N folly at night for sure. Had a guy approach us last time and was drunk and telling us he has nothing and his wife just left him. I’ve walked back from Sullivan’s to my car before at like 3am and there was a police officer that got out of his car and just asked if we caught anything. So I assume it’s okay there.
