Night fishing on Edisto

I was wondering what people use for light? I was thinking of a couple of the military grade red glow sticks on either the sand spikes or the rod tips with a red shielded lantern and flashlight when necessary.

Also can anyone recommend a good place for dinner? How about a deep sea trip? This will be my first trip to Edisto, so I know very little about the area.

Thanks!!

I will be there 6/13-21.

You will not find a bad place to eat on the island. We ate at nearly every rest there and enjoyed every place. We used a small battery powered lantern when night fishing. It does get very dark at night.

Gotta check out Flowers Seafood! It’s a fresh seafood shop that cooks and sells AWESOME food out of a little trailer out back

I too will be there the same week. We have been to Edisto in the past and I have wondered about fishing at night. I have been hesitant to do so because I don’t want to get in trouble with the turtle people.

If I were to fish at night I would imagine the head lamps would be the way to go.

might wanna check regs on night time out there. think i read artificial lighting is not allowed this time of year at night. maybe just a quick shine to unhook a fish may be ok…?

The turtle light regs are my concern. You’re not supposed to use any light that doesn’t have a red filter. That’s why I was thinking about using the red glow sticks or maybe a lantern with a red film shield. I’m not sure how strictly this is enforced, but even if it isn’t at all I don’t want to mess up some baby turtles, lol.

also, not sure if you’re staying in a house, but the public beach accesses say you can only park there til 11pm.

Yeah, we’ll be in a house on the beach between Whaley and Mary streets.

I fished last Friday night. About an hour after low tide I started catching sharks (Atlantic Sharpnose). Caught 5 of them and lost two in about 3 hours time but wasn’t fishing constantly. Only fished for sharks using some Bonita from Hadrells. Used a LED Lantern and LED headlamps. Was out there til 4:30am and saw no baby turtles come my way nor anyone enforcing lights. One eventful thing was the guy who came up to me and my wife at 4am and appeared to only be wrapped in a blanket. He seemed to not be hitting on all 8 cylinders. You should be fine with red filters and to use the LED light when necessary.
