Went back to our usual creek spot. Put out two lines with fiddlers and one line with a live menhaden under a float. Turns out that what I had thought were juvenile mullet schooling (see my earlier post) were in fact juvenile croakers or spots, probably spots. There were some mullet, but lots of schools of menhaden and something was nailing the menhaden occasionally. I eventually found out what it was when the something slammed my float bait. Reeled in a 13" Blue.
Also had about a three foot Bonnet head shark chop one of my menhaden when it got to close to the shore. Noticed the Bonnet head in a frenzy trying to find the rest of the Menhaden it chopped. No Reds today but I did manage a 15" and a 13" Sheep head; released the 13 inch. Had the Sheep head on a fish line with the Blue and after seeing the Bonnet head started keeping a close eye on the fish line. Turns out a huge stingray took notice of the fish line and started trying to mug my fish. My wife came over and got them and went about 30 yds upstream and began to clean the fish. The sting ray went over and started pestering her for the fish. The turtles were just as active as they were the other day. One of the larger ones has something wrapped around it’s head. Noticed the same one the other day and at first thought it was a piece of a horseshoe crab shell. The turtle’s head is only up long enough for it to grab a breath of air so I am unable to figure out what it has stuck on it’s head.
