It was pathetic to see such a small turnout for a great bill for recreational fishing

Paul, I’m sure there are many like me that very much appreciate the fact that those who can make it, like you, do, while some of us are simply unable to be there to show our support. Physical presence is great but I would be very interested to know how we can support this with letter writing or phone calls or petitions or the likes. I am open to suggestions and willing to do my share.

Bonzo,
Let me tell you: I’ve been building support in the House for the bill. I think we’ll pass it out the House without too much of a fight. When a bill goes to the senate is when things can get hairy. You ALL need to be writing and calling your Senator, specifically Senator Campsen who chairs the Senate Subcommitee where this bill will be. Tell them you support H 3735 and make sure you explain what the bill does. It gives the state a year around season for black sea bass. Tell them why you support it. The more letters and phone calls the better.

What is his number?
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
Would just like to say I fully intended to be there but the storms that passed through Ga monday evening kept me at work all day yesterday and most of last night.
It’s what I do! No work=no boat=no fishing.
Sucked but I gotta do what I gotta do!

There are many guides in charleston making money off nearshore and inshore fishing and NOT 1 guide has the time in their “busy” self made schedule to come support their own well being at the statehouse today??? What the heck is wrong with people these days!! There were 6 of us up there to represent how many hundred or more guides and thousands of recreational fisherman- you people need to put more effort into this- stop talking and do something b/c actions speak louder than words…but on a good note things went well today and we hope to see Mr. Goldfinch’s bill pass soon
just sent my message!

Those who spoke today did well. I, too, was disappointed in the turnout.
How did the bill fare in the House? I contacted my representative and he is supportive of the bill. How can we find who voted and how? It should be a matter of record. We can use this for the Senate hearing.
I agree. Those that are dependent upon passage of the bill, i.e. professionals should definitely be in more support for the measure.
Perhaps a career fair could help?
Unfortunately I had I test this morning or I would have at least shown up with the jon boat in tow.
Thanks for all that you are doing.
Sorry i could not make it either. Had a big presentation at work. What is the next step? When is it? We can get buses or vans from Charleston, the upstate, Florence, etc. Let us start planning it now. Sells, people could meet in your parking lot.
Lets pull some boats up there.
Scout, Key West, Pioneer, Sea Hunt, Freeman, Who am I leaving out?

Getting fishermen together is like herding cats. Years ago before anyone even thought restrictions could become this insane, I was at every public scoping meeting there was. It was usually me - Mark Brown , and a handfull of rec & comm fishers from up & down the coast. We were sometimes out numbered by the enviros that showed up. Some might remember when the first thought of an MPA was whispered and there was a scoping meeting that had a packed house - Where are they today?
Like herding cats… and the enviros know it.
Today seemed very smooth and the vote was unanimous in favor of the bill. It makes total sense and we need to continue to push forward with it and contact everyone we can. There wasn’t really an enviro presence there which was nice. Thanks to Stephen for making all this happen.
This bill has a long way to go before passage, but its success cannot be dependent entirely on Stephen and the guys who spoke yesterday. I readily admit that I’m partially retired, and it was easier for me to be there than most, but I was really embarrassed that out of the hundreds of fishermen (many of whom moan and groan on this site) who will benefit from this bill, only six could give up a half day to support it. Unlike the SAMFC meeting, this one was easy to do. Parking was convenient; it started on time , the speakers were brief and to the point, the sum-committee was polite and asked interesting questions, and there was an opportunity to meet some movers and shakers. The only thing lacking was fishermen support. I couldn’t help but wonder if the ocean was calm, and the law allowed us to fish, how many of us would have “made arrangements” to go fishing. That’s as nice as I can be about it.

The full House hasn’t voted on the bill yet. It has only now passed subcommittee. It next has to pass full committee, then go back to the full house for a second and third reading. It then goes to the Senate. It will pass the full committee. Contact your reps to make sure there’s no fight on the House Floor. We want it passed out of the House smoothly. The real battle will be at the Senate, when it’s out of my control. Make sure you have called or written your House Rep and your Senator. You can figure out who they are at www.scstatehouse.gov

Guys,
I am behind the times, but want to support ANY bill that benefits us. I am a bit lost however.
What bill is this? Just the name so I can reference it correctly when I email my representative and senators.
Should I just contact representatives now or include Senators too?
thanks,
Robert
