North Edisto Inlet

Looking to head out of the North Edisto inlet sometime soon, the one between Seabrook and the north end of Edisto. Is it as simple as following the markers out? Also, how does it compare to other inlets in terms of how rough it gets with opposing wind/currents and such.

Thanks in advance

Others who have done it more than me, please chime in.
But the few times (6-8) I’ve been out it has been as simple as following the markers. I’ve found no shallow areas to be concerned with. And I’ve not been through anytime that the waves built up and made it feel sketchy.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I’ve been out of it two times before but it was years ago and on someone else’s boat. Thats the kind of info I was looking for. I’m sure that it does have rough moments from wind and such but with it seeming like a more passable inlet than a lot of others on the coast I was wondering if it might generally be a little calmer too.

On the way out keep the markers on your right. Once you hit the 2nd red marker then you can head out. There is a sandbar that gets pretty shallow. If you keep them on the right then the shallowest it gets is about 8ft at low tide. Let me know when you’re going. We leave there all the time. You can follow us out if we are around.

Thanks! And will do, cbeck. Would definitely prefer to follow someone out the first time if at all possible.

Make sure you save the track on you GPS on the first trip and just follow it from then on!

Pez are you going this weekend?

Mista Jimmy drives the big shrimp boat thru there, you’ll be alright.

Negative, it’ll probably be a couple weeks before we give it a shot. More than likely will end up going just to check it out in person at that point. Do you make it out at all in the fall?

If you’re going south just hang a sharp right at the end of botany island and head out keeping the beach 100 yds or so on your starboard side, once you have followed the beach for quarter mile or so you can start a more perpendicular line heading out around the 180 deg angle

Pez yeah the fall has great bottom fishing. We go all year.

TRS, as of now if we went to head to the south we’d probably just follow the markers out and head down. I appreciate the info and that might be something to try once more familiar with that area.

Cbeck, do yall ever head out to the Ediso OS reef in your Sea Fox?

Pez we go all the time. We’ve run to 350ft of water a few times. We are going to run that direction Saturday if it’s a swell like it says.

Wow, thats a good run there!

I know there’s threads on it, but what sources do you think are most reliable for that area and what buoy or location do you check?

I use Sailflow app and I use the NOAA buoy 41004. It’s the only buoy offshore around here. It’s a little further North but still useful. Let me know when you come down and we will take you out there and buddy up.
