Fished North Folly from 7:30 - 11:45. Thought I’d switch things up a bit, so I headed towards the inlet. Stayed about 30 minutes. Caught a shark pup, but the longshore was brutal, so I moved back to my normal spot off the cul-de-sac, hoping for less current. It was a little better. Managed a 15" speckled trout and a single whiting, but as the tide came in, the current got worse. A 4 ounce pyramid was no match. Not much fun, I must say.
Good looking trout.
What were you using for bait? Short of the one red and one black earlier in the season out at the tip of Folly, it has been nothing but whiting on frozen shrimp. Same thing this morning.
Frozen mud minnows. Past couple of times out, I’ve caught nothing on frozen shrimp or frozen mullet; only mud minnows. I go out with my minnow trap every couple of weeks and stock up. I sometimes fish with live minnows if I’m on a dock or get a boat ride, but usually I’m restricted to the surf, so I freeze them in batches of about 25-30. A single batch will last me for several hours in the surf, and unlike frozen shrimp or mullet, they stay on the hook pretty well in rough conditions.
