Fished north folly Wednesday alot of small whiting and small pompano. Had a good run on a chunk of blue crab but whatever that was let go. About half way through a young lady decided she was going to paddle past half mile of deserted beach to surf some waves litteraly right in front of us. At one point while she was still about 200 Yards away I walked out further out than her and to cast out. Have had things like this happen a bunch this year kinda frustrating

Ive had people literally swim 10yds away from my line even after I brought bigger sharks and rays to the beach. People have no clue nor are they considerate of others.
Went back to the same spot tonight got 2 redfish, 1 lady fish, 2 sharks in the 3 ft. range and lots of small whiting
18ft Polar CC 115 Yam.

Looks like that area has a nice little trough especially if you were still catching em on last nights low tide. fished just short of the last parking access last evening targeting sharks and reds and didnt even get a bump. looks like i should have moved more N or E whichever. Water sure looked good though!
That is frustrating. Earlier this summer I was fishing at folly after dark and I was south of the pier where there was almost nobody on the beach. I had been there for thirty minutes and went to recast. When I put my rod in my sand spike I saw that there were two teenage guys swimming literally right where I had cast. They’re lucky they didn’t get hit by my sinker. Had no idea they were out there, I guess they swam parallel to the shore, cause they definitely didn’t get in the water near me.
ive had a swimmer get tangled in my lines even after knowing where my invisible surf rods were at both in charleston and now in georgia. i say 5 points for a hit, 10 points to knock her off, 50 if its more hilarious than it should be when she falls ready…aim…FIRE!!!
I’ve never heard of pompano bring caught in charleston…What king of rig/bait/technique are you using? Those are one hell of a tasty fish!

Caught two at North Folly in the spring and one this summer.

Two-hook bottom rig with 2/0 inline octopus circle, 2 or 4 ounce pyramid, frozen shrimp. I don’t really target them, but it’s nice when they show up. As you said, they’re tasty. Don’t see bunches, though. No sand fleas (mole crabs) at Folly, that I’ve ever seen.
Pompano are at folly. I didn’t get to target them this year but you can get them
Small hooks and fresh shrimp in the breakers is where I’ve got them. Caught 3 or 4 nice ones that were in the 3 to 5 pound range… They fight hard on an ultralight!

Thank you! One more question: when is the best time of the year to target them?

On that one, I’ll have to defer to more experienced surf fishermen. Personally, I’ve had more luck in the spring than the summer. I have some friends who fish Pritchards Island(Beaufort) regularly, and they’ve had about the same experience - more in spring. Most of what they catch, though, are small; not worth keeping. That’s about all I can add. I love Pompano, but I’ve not landed enough of them to provide any sort of “informed” opinion, much less “expert” opinion. Still learning, myself.
