O-Sea-D Report 7/7/07

Left D.I. Marina @ 3:45 Started straight out in 170’ and had action right away with some nice Hoos but only managed one out of three. All fish were deep off of the down riggers 60’ down and 35’ down. Then the trash fish got us. We pushed on out to 600’ and stumbled upon a pocket of Corys. Boats pushed them away so we came back into 200’ and got covered up with “Eyeball” special daysavers. Had two more mystery fish off of the downriggers again that each ran off 300 yards before stopping and saying bye-bye, my guess more nice hoos but never saw them. Just as we were deciding what to do (keep fishing or pullem up)the short inside outrigger gives a tug and Taylor was on it dropping back, he gets the bite and the show is on. His first sail!!! 20 minutes later the fish is released to fight again. We get back to D.I. Marina for the cerimonial swim. Congrats man. Glad to have you onboard today. Action was a little slow at times but there are some quality fish under the trash fish, however we just could not get them all in the box.

Totals for the day:
1 for 5 on Hoos
2 for 3 on Corys
1 for 1 on sails
6 for god knows how many on trash fish
3 chocolate donuts
4 lbs. of smoked Boston Butts
12 pack Budlight not big drinkers today
2 packs of Camel Lights
4 packs of ballyhoo
160 gallons of fuel
Calm ocean
Taylor’s grin from ear to ear (permme grin)

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. FISH 24/7------------ 25 Grady w/ a couple of Gas Guzzling 175 Johnsons “O-SEA-D” the old “Havanadaydream”

Had an awesome day and finished up strong. glad we choose to let them soak a little longer. thanks for the great day

Why do you insist on brutalizing the billfish? Take a picture in the water and maybe the fish lives another day. Yank it out, covered in blood-not much chance it will recover. You are apparently young and green from the photos.

15,

I am not going to argue over the internet but It was a first for the boat so it will get a picture and all others will be released in water from now on. By the way, why should I even justify my actions to you, you are nodody to me!!!

Where is all of this “Don’t take the sails out of the water” crap coming from lately. Sounds like a bunch of Tred Barta’s saying, “Yeah I know I killed hundreds of (pick a fish or mammal) but I don’t want anyone else to ever do it again”. I have caught dozens of sails, had a picture with 2 of them and I feel 100% that all lived to be caught another day. In Guatemala there are upwards of 200 sails caught in a day, dozens of pictures and I have never seen or heard of one dying…not one. I am sure some have but with that many being caught and photographed the ocean would be littered with dead sails if they were harmed by an in boat picure. I strongly support in water pictures, but am really tired of anyone posting a picture being lambasted for putting up a good report and picture.

Good report and great picture.

WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU INSIST ON BEING A JACKASS ALL THE TIME (HAVANADAYDREAM). YOU HAVE A TERRIBLE ATTITUDE!!!

Good Job on the sail! Your attitude is right in line!! This crap about taking a fish out the water is getting old… Have fun, take a picture and make a quick release.

Ps. Everyone knows how to properly release fish… Wether taking pictures or not.

Again- Good job on the sail!

The fish was out of the water for nearly 10 sec, and the blood was because of the hook in the corner of its mouth. i dont see what the problem is 15ftlover.

also, HAVANADAYDREAMER is just tired of people like “the little lover” talking **** from behind a keyboard. We caught the boats 1st sail, and my first sail (call me green if you want, i am 17 but i have been doing it 11) just wanted a picture and back in the water. and let me tell you that it didnt float off, it kicked off.

Hey guys, here’s the bottom line. According to the Atlantic Migratory Species Regulations, " If a billfish is caught by a hook, the fish must be released by cutting the line near the hook or by using a dehooking device, in either case without removing the fish from the water. "

THATS WHAT I WAS TRYING TO TELL THAT FISH KILLER. THE GUYS HERE AT WORK AND MYSELF DETERMINED A WHILE AGO THEY ARE WRONG OR JUST GREEN.

Tail, if you are 17 and HAVANA is 15,how long have y’all been drinking and smoking?

BTW, I was your age once myself, and I’ll have to admit, even though its hard to talk about publicly,I HAVE ALSO ABUSED SAILFISH.I even brought one in the boat and not only took pictures of him but took a tape measure and measured him before I released him. I feel better now.

This is stupid, first bill for the boat if it’s a sail drag it in for the picture, second and up, no way and Havana knows that. Lay off people, Havana is good people and is highly concerned about our fishery, and almost certainly has been fishing longer than you!

Thanks for the support guys!! BR549!!!get to work, and stop stirring the pot.

I knew a guy who got drunk and killed 3 people in a boat when he was 15. It was his first time and he really did not know all of the rules, so I was surprised when people did not let it slide as a rookie mistake…

This is not a chawade…

We need total concentwation…

Well, next time just kill the fish and everyone will be ok with that, at least it is legal. If any 17 year old (or anyone else) is on my boat and gets a sail, marlin or whatever…there will be a picture taken. These fish are not endangered, sure some most likely die but I don’t think from being hauled topside for a 30 to 90 second picture.

MOST important is that you better be careful what you ask for, you might just get it. I will assume we are all fishermen here and if you moan about a sailfish picture the real tree huggers might just quote you on it and be taking a picture of you next time you net some menhaden and grind them up for chum.

What exactly are the regulations for sailfish?

He took the bait like a jugbelly redfish on an olive and white clouser.

what if they would have dried it, and enjoyed sailfish steaks on the grill with all their friends tonight?

pretty cool kids if you ask me. i bet they will be much better fishermen in the future than the pansy asses that are caling them out for taking a picture.

good job guys.

People don’t realize taking these fish out of water is like a person running at a full sprint for 10 or 15 min, sometimes more, than not being able to breath. I don’t understand what’s the big deal about taking a picture of the first one anyway? Caught I’m when I was 15 and all my dad wanted to do is take a picture, one of his proudest moments, I just wanted to catch another one.

Take 'em out of the water for a picture, everyone does it.

Just don’t post the picture here. It’s sure to piss someone off.

The HMS rules say leave it in the water, so that’s what we do, right?

Play smart, play by the rules.

Nice work, guys!
