O-Sea-D Report 7/7/07

Sailfish are the new trashfish.

Thanks UpGrady for painting us such an accurate and intelligent picture.

Just the other day my girlfriend caught her first undersized red snapper. When we got it to the surface it was still frisky so we decided to just throw it on the deck for 30 to 90 seconds and let it calm down. When it finally stopped flapping she picked it up and we took a picture. We figured since we already tortured it by accidentally hooking it that it didn’t matter if it lived or died when we released it. We probably won’t do it next time, but since it was her first undersized red snapper we figured it was special.

Allright time to piss on some more corn flakes for these wackos…You guys sound like wind ferries not fishermen… Tea and Krumpets on the stern promenade anyone?!?

Look in the mirror and think about it, that’s all I ask… The subject was brought up about conscience to follow the rules out on the water… I hope you reflect back on your own conscience at night when you realize that did not yield right of way in EVERY situation while heading out of the harbor to your sacred freakin fishing grounds, and that stop sign at 3am in the morning while you were hightailing your pathetic ass down to your boat in the morning was also optional as well… If you start casting stones and being so righteous you had better have a clean slate yourself, b/c it comes back full circle…

Once again, since apparently, I stuttered in my last post… we are fishermen and if we release fish, of course we want them to live to fight another day, otherwise, we would deliberately shoot them or hit them over the head with a billyclub… secondly, no matter what fishing is NOT HUMANE… we are deliberately sinking a hook into the mouth of another living creature and then letting it fight like crazy for our own pleasure… get over yourselves with your self righteous tirades and get a grip on the reality of what you are doing… period…

Here’s another one to ponder… maybe when Hillary gets into office, we’ll finally end up with a National Health Care Plan that will include citizenship and corresponding coverage for Billfish…

So, when you go to bed tonight, don’t jerk off to Clinton highlight reels or praise your buddy Al for inventing this wonderful cyberspace that we can all diss each other on, just think about what you’re saying before you open your trap and get exposed for the two faced idiots that you really are…

...maybe you can piss on everyone's cornflakes on that thread by proving everyone wrong by clearly showing Freddy Mercury was in fact a lover of men...

Hang on just one minute…you mean Freddie Mercury was gay?

Probably the only ethical justification to catch fish is for consumption.Any other reason is to satisfy our(note I said OUR)selfish desire for pleasure. As a true conservationist you wouldn’t buy 100k$ boats made from fossil fuel derivatives, then consume several hundreds gals.of fossil fuel to catch a few lbs. of food.

As for govt. regulations, they have to strike a balance between tree huggers and game hogs.Tree huggers would like no fishing;Game hogs would like no regulations. The resource management agencies have to be careful to regulate so as not to cut off the hand that feeds them ,WE FISHERMEN.
I agree that we should follow rules, but just remember that these rules are not from God,but from people that are playing a political football game. Next year they may encourage you to bring them in and take pictures to promote fishing or they could stop you from fishing altogether.Depends on the political winds.

I’m not about to argue the ill effects of handling a fish out of water, but ironically, just last night I was watching TV and some scientists who are a whole lot smarter than I am were quoted as saying that fish do not have a central nervous system complex enough for them to feel pain or fear.
Personally, I don’t have any idea, but I’ll accept their’s…if for no other reason than it makes me feel better about setting the hook.

I got a pic of my first sail back in June but didn’t post a pic on the Web. My report only got 3 responses. Wonder why? All others will be left in the water. She was out for about 12 seconds and swam off fine.

I only posted this pic. HA HA!!!

Fishing is a need

Murderer, you’re children will pay for your sins by being forced to pay sailfish reparations enacted by a Democratic beholden to PETA.

Greg1,

I think what Upgrady is saying is that all you folks condoning taking an out of the water picture of a fish and then releasing are Bill Clinton Masturbaiting, wacko, liberal, etc. You are just as guilty as anyone else for burning fossil fuel and destroying the waters and fishery as some one who takes an out of the water photo. With that being restated so a 4 year old can understand, I have to commend Upgrady for his precision and tact. O-Sea-D over and out.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. FISH 24/7------------ 25 Grady w/ a couple of Gas Guzzling 175 Johnsons “O-SEA-D” the old “Havanadaydream”

The use of “condoning” here sure puts a little twist in your response.

You are lucky it only took you 12 seconds. That was God’s thunder cloud sneaking up behind you about to strike you dead with a bolt of lightening.

I must’ve missed this.

Ok. First, tell me what it is I’m condoning and then tell me what I’m supposed to be arguing.

Havana, I don’t mind debating with you, but at least do me a favor and let me know what side you want me to take.

Also, how are you doing with that issue about tired out sailfish jumping? Figured that little doosie out yet?

As cool as fate can be… this little story fell into my lap about 5 minutes ago via an e-mail from my Father-in-law… wonder what all of you peeps might think about this one?!?

Pictures were included, but I didn’t feel like monkeying with the files to link them to the thread…

Last Saturday morning, my buddy Bo Warren and I were trolling for stripers in the Chesapeake Bay . We were 1 Ã'½ miles offshore in about 80 feet of water contemplating why the fish weren't biting. We looked back to check our gear and saw something odd in the water. Was it a seal??
Can't be, we don't have seals around here. On closer look, it turned out to be a buck deer that was WAY off course. He was desperate and barely staying afloat. I've seen deer swim a river or bayou before.

When you see that, the first thing you notice is that they are powerful swimmers.
Their head and shoulders are out of the water and they make surprisingly good headway. This critter was just keeping his nose up and looked like he’d been swimming all night long. In fact, he was so worn out that he swam toward the boat probably thinking it looked enough like land to him. When he got closer though, he wasn’t sure what to make of the two dudes on board, and backed off. So, since the fish weren’t biting, we thought we’d give this buck a hand. Turns out Bo grew up around cows and was really handy with a bowline. He lassoed the deer on the first shot!
Bo grabbed his neck, I grabbed the flank, and we barreled over backwards into the boat. Before I knew it,Bo was on top of him and had him tied up just like a calf. We hit the gas and ran him to the closest beach - Kent Point . I beached the boat and we carefully unloaded the deer onto the sand.
The whole time we kept thinking he was going to kick the hell out of us. He never did though he was totally spent. We untied him and jumped back. Too weak to stand, he just sat there quivering. We even picke
